Giveaway: A whole lotta ways to live large.
Posted by Donna Freedman on Oct 29, 2010 | 110 commentsI love Wise Bread. How could you not love a blog that offers “5 frugal tips for perpetually lazy people,” instead of assuming that we’re all willing to walk five miles to save five cents?
The fact is, frugality means different things to different people ā and that blog has something for just about everyone, from world travelers to stay-at-home parents.
This week Iām giving away a copy of ā10,001 Ways to Live Large on a Small Budget,ā put together by the lovely and talented writers at Wise Bread. This is no tip-a-day pamphlet, either. It’s a hefty trade paperback that will teach you how to do stuff like:
- Bake bread
- Remove car dents
- Lower your blood sugar
- Hustle free drinks
- Make fake facial warts for Halloween
And there are still 9,996 tactics to go. The mind boggles.
To enter:
- Leave a comment below
- Subscribe via e-mail or RSS
- Sign up to follow Surviving and Thriving on Twitter or Facebook
If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave an additional comment to get credit for each entry.
Entry deadline is 9 p.m. PDT Monday, Nov. 1. A random number generator will determine the winner.

Bake bread and fake warts? My kind of book!
And of course I subscribe to both yours and your daughter’s “I pick up Pennies” blogs.
I’m sort of new to the frugal lifestyle. Having 2 incomes at our household had spoiled me! Now we are down to 1 and 1/3, so I have learned how to be creative and stretch our dollars, thanks in part to Surviving and Thriving, and Get Rich Slowly. I love reading blogs from people who have come up with new ways to save money, that still allow some flexibility for things like an occasional iced coffee

How’s that for being frugal and lazy?
-)
@ImJuniperNow: It’s a pretty heavy book so would make a fine blunt instrument, too. Next time someone twitted you about frugality, WHACK! upside the head.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
Thanks for your blog. I filed bankruptcy 16 months ago, went through horrible feelings of deprivation, came to accept my new situation, worked hard and started saving for the first time in my life. Now I have some money in the bank and, although I have the CASH to buy “stuff” again, I find that I don’t. And I don’t mind not having everything. I’m only sorry it took a horrible situation to make me learn to be frugal and wise.
Sounds fascinating–I’d love to win a copy!

I’ve love your site on MSN Donna for years now. And I just found you here. You’ve been a wonderful source of encouragement for me. I’ve been living {barely} on Social Security Disability for 9 years now. But these passed 8 months have been extremely difficult. I’m sure other bloggers can relate. I literally have about $10 left over each month. Trust me, I’m grateful for that. I know a few people in the red at the end of each month. Being able to deposit even that small amount in my Savings Account gives me such a good feeling of contentment! I wish all my fellow posters the same feeling.
I’ve been a huge fan of WiseBread for a long time and would love to win this book! Thanks for the opportunity!
