Giveaway: Of moose and women.

I’ll be heading back to Seattle soon, but I can’t leave the Last Frontier without giving away some Alaskana.

Here’s what’s up for grabs this week:

The 2011 Alaska Moose calendar — a year’s worth of funky ungulates. My favorite is July, a mama moose soaking herself in a lawn sprinkler. The calendar is photographed and produced by the Anchorage Daily News, my former employer.

An “Alaska Girls Kick Ass” bumper sticker, aka a little attitude from a northern latitude. (This item generated much interest during summer giveaways.)

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave additional comments to get credit for each entry.

Entry deadline is 9 p.m. PST Monday, Dec. 27.

  1. Moose are my favorite, behind turtles and wolves. When I was in high school we had to design an airline and I named mine MooseAir. Instructor not too sure it would exude confidence to see a big moose on the tail fin of an airplane…….so what, who cares. haha. Happy Holidays.

  2. When we were newly in love, my beloved husband and I fell into the habit of saying “I love you moose” to describe how much we loved each other.

    • @Erin: Thanks for bringing that up. I’d forgotten that meter-feeding is illegal in some places. But hey, unless a law is posted prominently I might just forget that it exists…And maybe they’d let me off with a warning if I were caught.

  3. An indelible moose memory: In a Fairbanks restaurant one winter, the waiter announced, “There’s a moose outside.” Everyone instantly vacated the warm restaurant and their warm dinners to stand in the snow and watch (at a respectful distance) a moose eat leaves.
