Surviving and Thriving meet-up! Sunday, Aug. 28, near Washington, D.C.

The hell with Hurricane Irene. Wanna hang out?

Some commenters had expressed interest in a meet-up. I’d love the chance to meet and talk about personal finance and lifeitsownself.

The lovely and talented CandiRN has suggested we congregate in the food court of the Pentagon City Mall in Arlington, Va., which is apparently called “The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City.” I’m inclined to agree, if only because the idea of a “Pentagon City” makes me snicker.

Here’s the plan: I’ll be in the food court at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28. We sit around talking until they kick us out. Look for me to be sitting near McDonald’s, but we can move to a quieter area if need be.

I’ll be using Metro and hope to arrive a little early. Public transit being what it is, I hope you’ll cut me a little slack if I’m a few minutes late.

Readers, other PF bloggers and anyone else who’s interested — please show up! It would be embarrassing for me to sit there all by myself, as though I’d been jilted by my prom date.

  1. I would love to meet you, but I’ll be camping this weekend. I hope you’ll be able to make it to DC again sometime. (I also hope our weather is coopertive for you. ) Have fun, all!

  2. Shoot! I have to cook for the homeless dinner at that time, but like Meghan, I hope you make it to D.C. again.

You may end up with some pretty wet conditions, thanks to Hurricane Irene…

    • Donna Freedman

@Nancy: The homeless appreciate it. And yeah, my timing re hurricanes et al. is, as always, impeccable.

  3. If you ever come to Dublin (Ireland) let me know & I’ll show you the cheap spots! Have a fun meet up.

  4. Harry Martin

But you’re so short — pass.

    Have a wonderful time!

  5. Suzanne

If the hurricane fizzles I will be there but its not looking good~

  6. ImJuniperNow

Ditto to riding out the hurricane, otherwise I’d be there.

Hey, don’t knock the Metro. It is actually a very good ride.

  7. I’ll be preparing for Irene’s wrath that’s supposed to come to New England that day! :( Come to Boston sometime though, we’re way more awesome then the rest of the country!! 😀

  8. You’re right Lizzy.. the folks in Boston are ‘Wicked Awesome’ (one of our colloquialisms here in Mass). Can anyone guess where I hail from. I too, will be securing all hatches and keeping positive wishes for anyone in Irene’s path. Donna, if you ever make it to Boston, please post, as I work for a museum and would be thrilled to send some passes your way! One frugalista helping another frugalista out !
    Safe journeys!

  9. You may be living in the food court if Irene floods the area. Be safe, but we know that you will turn this into an adventure, and we can’t wait to hear your side of the story.

  10. Donna!
I would LOVE to meet you, but unfortunately the weather will be a big determining factor! There are lots of roads to DC that get flooded and since I’m about 30 miles west, it may be too treacherous. Darn.

Stay safe, and let me know when you will be in the area again!!

  11. Suzanne

Donna, you may want to take a train ride west for the weekend. Its gonna be pretty bad on the Potomac~ I’d say come on down to Culpeper but I am pretty sure we are going to get a ton of rain and wind and our power will be out. We have cancelled other local plans for Saturday evening in preparation. Be careful :-)

    • Donna Freedman

@Suzanne: I’ll definitely be keeping a weather eye, as it were, on the situation. Thanks.
