Want a $50 gift card? Swagbucks is giving one away.

th-1I’m doing almost all of my holiday shopping with free gift cards from MyPoints, Swagbucks and a couple of rewards credit cards.

That’s not due to my recent personal economic downturn, however: I always shop this way. If I can get promissory scrip by using a particular site, search engine or credit card, why wouldn’t I?

If you’re starting to wonder how much you can afford to spend for the holidays, this might interest you: My favorite rewards program, Swagbucks, has offered me a special signup code for new referrals (more on that in a minute), and a chance for both new and old referralss to win a $50 gift card.

Interested? I thought so.

This contest is pretty easy to enter; in fact, it’s automatic. All the people I’ve ever referred to Swagbucks will be entered into a drawing for a $50 card if they earn at least 50 Swagbucks between now and Oct. 30. (For a look at card offerings, click here.)

That’s 50 SBs from any combination of the Shop, Search, Watch, Play, Answer or Discover categories. Simply answering the one-question Daily Poll every day during this time frame will give you 31 SBs. Keep an eye on the Swagbucks Facebook page for Swag Code announcements and you’ll get the other 19 SBs in short order.

Or just use the search engine now and then. I’ve never had a day go by without winning at least one or two codes. You’ll have those 50 points before you know it.

A signing bonus for newbies

If you’re not already a member, get yourself a bonus with the sign-up code SURVIVETHRIVE – but be sure to do it correctly:

  • Click on this link to be sent to the registration page.
  • Click on “I have a sign-up code” during registration. This is important! The text can be small, so look carefully.
  • Use that SURVIVETHRIVE code to get 70 Swagbucks (instead of the usual 30) when you sign up. It’s good until Oct. 30.

The code bonus plus the 30 Swagbucks you get for filling out your profile means 100 SBs right off the bat. Put another way: You’ll be almost one-fourth of the way toward your first $5 Amazon gift card.

That’s my favorite premium; I stash them in my Amazon account for birthdays and holidays. Having gifts delivered to family in the Lower 48 is a lot simpler than standing in line at the post office. (I’m an Amazon Prime member, which means free shipping in the states.)

To recap: You have until Oct. 30 to earn those 50 SBs. So if you’re a member who’s slacked off lately, try doing some searches or answering some polls. A $50 gift card would be a nice boost to your own holiday shopping.

Or unload it on the secondary market (see “Selling unwanted gift cards” for details) and divert the proceeds to your retirement fund – the Future You will be awfully glad you did.

  1. Donna, I buy my holiday gifts the old-fashioned way – from my Christmas Club at the credit union. Gift cards are okay, but I have a small list of recipients and $5 per week (auto-debited and not even missed) takes good care of them all, without chasing points and filling out surveys all year. I have another Christmas Club for charity; a few friends and I pool our dollars each year to buy food for our local animal shelter. Again, the saving is painless.

    • Christmas Clubs are a great idea, true. But some of us just like the extra budgetary boost. I’m particularly happy about it this year, now that my main income has gone away and I’ve chosen not to rush to replace it to the penny. Gift cards from those
Incidentally, I rarely fill out surveys. Most of my points come from the daily poll, the search engine, Swag Codes and watching videos that last anywhere from 16 seconds to 2 minutes. Not much chasing involved. But to each his own.
      Thanks for reading.

    • Yep! The gnomes at Swagbucks have a list of everyone I’ve ever referred, and anyone who’s at least 50 SBs’ worth of active will be eligible for the prize.
If you win, better write and tell us so.

  2. I’m glad that you are up and running again. I was having withdrawals.
Oh and I didn’t mean to “like” when you posted on FB that your site was down. I have sausage fingers(the technical term at our house) and didn’t mean to click like on my phone.

  3. I have been using swagbucks for over a year after I clicked on the link on your blog.

At work, with free interenet I downloaded the search tool bar, very handy.

Then I did it on my home computer and my data usage SHOT way up, charging me every 10gb. I uninstalled the toolbar and my usage went back to normal. The lesson is the toolbar is highly active even when you aren’t “using” it. So if you keep a short leash on your data usage for budget reasons beware!

Other than that I love Swagbucks, earning points and cashing them out for gift cards.

    • Thanks for that info, and good luck in the contest. You’re automatically entered, remember, if you get at least 50 SBs this month (and it sounds as though you will).

  4. I am trying to fund Christmas this year through Swagbucks. Some of this is easy as it is going toward the items I needs to make some gifts, others are actually purchased by Swagbucks money earned.

I also save $50 a month toward gifts (Christmas, wedding, birthday, etc.)
