thTime to brace yourself for the annual holiday letters – those recaps of hot promotions at work, straight-A report cards, paid internships at Fortune 500 companies, swank housing or automobile upgrades, fabulous vacations and general lack of any downturn.

Throw in a photo of a staggeringly photogenic nuclear family posing with the family pooch and the recipients feel like jumping off bridges.

Their own jobs aren’t going nearly so well, their kids are struggling with algebra and their dogs are butt-ugly (though loyal).

The good news: Paper letters are going the way of the dodo.

The bad news: Now that they’re done electronically the sender can attach video of Junior’s trumpet recital.

How’d you like a $25 gift card to take your mind off the issue?

This week’s giveaway is sponsored by InkJetWilly.com, part of the same company that includes sites like Gift Card Granny and Coupon Sherpa, Inkjet Willy lets you enter the printer brand, series and model to find compatible cartridges.

Choose $25 in scrip from Starbucks, Walgreens, CVS or Regal Cinemas. Budget boosters all, no matter how you choose to spend them.

Full disclosure: I actually like annual holiday letters, because they give me a chance to catch up with people I might not see for a year or more. However, I can do without the trumpet solo.

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 7 p.m. PST Tuesday, Nov. 26. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PST Wednesday, Nov. 27, I’ll pull another name.

  1. I actually like those letters too. In the old days (haha) you really did catch up with a lot of people at Christmas. I had faraway cousins I knew through those letters. I guess they’re gone, if my mother even saved them. Can you imagine how cool it would be to see your aunts and uncles and cousins circa 1972?

Yes I’m feeling nostalgic. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. I like these letter also, but we only get a couple a year now. The two that we do get are from people far away that we rarely see, but I like to know how they are getting on, so these letters are nice.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. I particularly dislike the holiday letters that have been turned into bad, I mean really bad, poems. Although I love the sender.
