Celebrate the 2012 Oscars with dinner and a movie — on me.

Whenever I offer free movie tickets there’s a lot of interest. I can only infer that the tighter economy has led a lot of people to cut back on entertainment.

This week you’ll get both dinner and a movie in time for the Feb. 26 Academy Awards. Even if you don’t go see a nominated picture, you’ll be hitting the theater for free. If you play your cards right, you’ll be hitting the theater more than once.

That’s because the AMC Theatres gift card is for $25. See the first show of the day and you might get as many as four admissions. (It’s $6 a pop here in Seattle. How about in your neighborhood?) Or go once, with your sweetie, and use the remainder of the card’s worth for popcorn.

That is, if you’re still hungry after spending the $25 Restaurant.com gift card that’s the other half of this prize package. It may not be enough to feed you, depending on how fancy-schmancy a restaurant you choose. But it’s a start.

Then again, it might be more than enough. I took a $25 Restaurant.com card to Zayda Buddy’s down in Ballard and not only got filled up, but also took home a bunch of leftover Minnesota-style pizza for the freezer.

  1. This would be a great way to end my week! I was let go this week, so a little movie and meal out w/ a friend would help lift spirits a bit.

  5. AMC is the most expensive movie theater chain here in DFW. Rave is a close second. Although it’s a chain, Cinemark has a theater that has fixed pricing – $4 for a matinee and $6 after 6 pm. And you can sign up for weekly emails that offer a concession coupon. You can get a free drink with a purchase of a popcorn or a free popcorn with a drink purchase. Love it!

  6. Dinner and a movie is still a great date night for my husband and I after more than 20 years. Part of surviving and thriving as a couple is finding time together doing simple things!

  8. Well, can’t say I never saw a movie, but it has been a little over 2 years, as you are definitely right, Donna, our finances are that we can’t waste a penny of our money right now. In our area, prices are still going up, and I can’t see that articles on the internet say that things are getting better. The gas prices also have us staying at home as much as we can.

  9. This would be fantastic…just in time for my birthday! With the twins, we haven’t been able to afford to go out in a long time. 🙂

  10. I tend to go to the cheap ($2 or $1 on Tuesdays) theater closest to my home, get DVDs from the library, or go to the movies when we get a gift card as a present. So going to see a new movie when it is still new sounds fabulous!

  11. I can’t remember the last time I saw a movie in the theater. We get DVDs for free at our local library. Winning would be a real treat.
