Starbucks coffee or tea — it’s on me.

th-1El Niño is messing with us. Whether your weather is running weirdly hot or punishingly cold, chances are you can use a little treat. That’s why I’m giving away $10 worth of Starbucks gift cards.

If the winner lives in subzero territory it’s time for a steaming coffee, chai or hot chocolate. Maybe a second one, too, to pour over his or her frozen toes.

And if you’re walking around in shorts and a T-shirt in Philly or New York? Further the “hey, it’s spring already!” illusion with a fancy iced drink. (Or hang on to it for the inevitable return of cold-and-damp days, when you’ll really need a little consolation.)

You could also be a nice person and give the card away to a relative or friend. Myself, I’d recommend being really nice to yourself in the winter. Bonus frugal points if you save your savings, i.e., set aside $10 cash in exchange for the $10 in buying power you now have.

First, of course, you have to win. To enter:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline to enter is 7 p.m. PDT Sunday, Jan. 24. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PDT Monday, Jan. 25, I’ll have the random number generator pull a new name.

Note: A winner from outside the United States will receive an Amazon gift card in lieu of Starbucks scrip.

  1. This would pay for the entertainment on a much needed date for my husband and I (taken after dropping kids at school/before he hates to work to save on a sitter)

  2. Funny, I was just going to hop on over to pay you a compliment on your article on Get Rich Slowly. You’re the best contributor they’ve got! I thought your suggestions for starting/funding an EF were spot-on and found the article very interesting, despite the fact that I’m doing fine in the EF department, thank goodness.

  3. Cold here! Very cold! Thanks for another great giveaway. I do the saved savings thing…putting it all into an account saving for a particular future dream. It does add up over time!

  4. A gift card right about now sounds perfect. Around here it would be to combat the midwinter doldrums, and maybe an after-calculus reward treat. Class starts tomorrow!

  5. 16* at midnight in Maryland and just 10* where my son goes to school in Pennsylvania. He loves Starbucks hot chocolate and I love flat white etc. Would be nice to share a drink fueled by a giftcard next time we see him.

  6. I think winter has finally arrived here in NJ. Hoping we don’t get the snowstorm they say we might get this weekend. Thank you for the generous giveaway

  7. I guess the East Coast is currently paying the price for the exceptionally warm weather we had through December because it’s freezing now! A hot Chai sounds so good right now so hope I win this one!

  8. Yup, winter has arrived. A nice hot chocolate sounds about right just now. We’ve been drinking hot apple cider lately. Instant in pouches found at the local grocery.

  10. Count me in, as I am sitting here with my cup of Joe right now. I don’t think it is Spring in Philly today. I am about 85 miles away and we are freezing. Very windy too!

  12. We’re on the cold end of it. I’d probably give the coffee to a friend, but only after I held the cup for a couple minutes to warm my hands up.

  13. I could go for a free latte! Because you know, based on the “latte factor”, I never get Starbucks, but make coffee at home! Being frugal rocks!

  15. Hello from your former home, the Seattle area. It’s actually not raining today and I could get the mail without a coat on. That was fun 😉 My teenage son loves Starbucks so that’s the treat he chooses when a treat is called for…Thanks for the opportunity to win a gift card there.

  16. Naturally, I don’t drink Starbucks without a gift card (that I didn’t pay for) so it might have been a long while since my last. Actually I think my last was my birthday drink last fall when it was free 🙂
