FinCon12, with a cold — and a giveaway to match. Plus: An erudite vampire novel.

I go for months and months without getting a cold. When it’s time to go to a conference, I get sick. But what makes that particularly amusing is the subject of this week’s giveaway: another cold and flu package.

If the items I’m giving away were here, I’d have been into them all by now.

Today I have had a couple of packets of Emergen-C, and a few hours ago was given a squirt bottle of an all-natural cold relief formula by the lovely and talented Dr. Dean (author of  The Millionaire Nurse blog and book). I’ve been squirting the stuff into my mouth every so often and am hoping for the best.

Problem is, I haven’t given myself any quiet time since I got here, save for a 40-minute or so lie-down before an evening reception. It’s damned hard to want to be quiet when you’re surrounded by so much energy. Each time I thought I’d rest I wound up in long conversations with other writers and also with some of the conference sponsors.

Intellectually, I know I should have gone to bed in midday. But I allowed myself to be sucked into conversation after conversation. I take responsibility for the fact I feel like homemade shit right now.

Here’s hoping you won’t get any colds this year. But if you do, this small package of relief might help. Here’s what the winner will get:

  • Robitussin Peak Cold Nasal Relief tablets
  • Advil Congestion Relief tablets
  • Robitussin Cough and Chest Congestion liquid
  • A box of Kleenex tissues, the lotion-impregnated kind
  • A 16-count box of Lipton teabags and a cute li’l jar of honey
  • A copy of “Oscar Wilde and the Vampire Murders

That last is something to cheer you up. I’ve read it and it’s quite well done — part of a series of historical mysteries. If you’re sick, you should take to your bed with a pot of tea and some fun reading, not “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.” Although I’m having a splendid time at the conference, tea and bed sounds pretty good.

  1. I “feel” you Donna. My husband and went on a 2 wk. cruise. The day before we came home our favorite server in the ship’s dining room came down with a bad cold and shared it with us. Misery ensued for 2 weeks after we got home for both of us. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for you!

  6. You may not have this at the hotel, but if you can get some, 2 tsp apple cider vinegar in half cup of water (per day) might help shorten the cold. It also helped ward off a few colds for me. I hope you feel better!
