Giveaway: The cold and flu relief package.

thI sure hope that this week’s winner never actually needs the prize. But we’re in the thick of the cold and flu season so it’s best to be prepared — and it’s even better when someone else buys your supplies.

The winner will receive a box full of things essential to someone who’s down with the sniffles or a full-blown influenza. Here’s what’s in the package:

Mucinex liquid gel capsules. Some are for daytime and some will knock you out at night.

A box of tissues. Don’t bogart the workplace Kleenex, man.

Thann Aromatic Wood aromatherapy lotion, with rice bran oil and Vitamin E. Because all that honking can leave your nose pretty raw.

Chapstick medicated lip balm. Give your poor, dry lips a little pampering.

Chicken soup. The sight of the familiar red-and-white Campbell’s label might take you back to your childhood. When you’re feeling low, soup is good food.

Maple-flavored teabags. Honest. They’re from Canada and they come in three varieties: black, green and herbal (“tisane”). Hot drinks are very soothing, too.

A fun read. If you can afford to take a sick day, take a book to bed with you. This time around it’s “Top Secret Twenty-One,” part of the Stephanie Plum mystery series by Janet Evanovich. As a fellow Jersey girl, I approve of this novel.

A water bottle. Keep it on the bedside table for when you wake up with a parched mouth. Drown a cold, starve a fever, I say.

A packet of Emergen-C, in case you feel a cold coming on and want to fight it off. Sure, there’s no real evidence that megadosing Vitamin C will provide you with nothing more than pricey pee. But the placebo effect can’t be underestimated.

A packet of Emergen-Zzzz, with Vitamin C plus melatonin. Sweet dreams.

To enter:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline to enter is 7 p.m. PDT Tuesday, Jan. 12 If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PDT Wednesday, Jan. 13, I’ll have the random number generator pull a new name.

Due to the high cost of international shipping, a winner from outside the United States will receive an Amazon gift card.

  1. I have a bad chest cough and congestion. Could use that right now. Here’s hoping I won’t need it if I win it. Great giveaway.

  2. I was lucky enough not to get sick last year, which means most of everything is expired. Would be great to have on hand. Thank you!

  3. Wow a Stephanie Plum book:) I have been to Trenton and know all the streets mentioned in the books. I’ve eaten at Marsilios which is in 2 Stephanie Plum books. The cold and flu stuff will be great as well.

  4. I hope I won’t need this for awhile, but the way things are going…

I don’t often get sick, but I’ve been sick 6 times since summer, and 3 in the last month and a half, a mix of cold and flu. And with the last bunch, the latest one was coming on before I was fully over the earlier one. My immune system really needs to kick it into high gear.

  7. That’s a great write up and an excellent care package.

There are a few people sick here in the office. Would be willing to bet it won’t be long before I’m feeling it too. Perhaps then I won’t be so miserable when I read your emails!

P.S. – Former NYC’r who really likes Stephanie Plum books.
