Giveaway: “Tundra” playing cards.

31bj+FtE-zLReaction is always enthusiastic whenever I give away one of the “Tundra” comic strip collections. Why shouldn’t it be? Chad Carpenter is a very funny guy.

He’s also resourceful, having come up with an extremely portable and dual-use version of his best-selling anthologies: “Tundra” playing cards. (Insert your own “playing with a full deck” joke here.)

A set of the playing cards are up for grabs this week. As the artist suggests, use these for a poker game and see if anyone at the table can keep a straight face.

Imagine having 54 of the strip’s funniest cartoons at your disposal, including one of my personal favorites: a dog musher looking at a seemingly deflated husky and thinking, “Dang. A flat.”

(For a closer look at Carpenter’s northern lunacy, visit his site’s online store.)

These cards are great to take along when you travel. When faced with an airline delay, you can become a big screaming jerk or you can chill out and play solitaire. You can also pass the mini-toons around to get the folks in your immediate vicinity in a better mood.

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 7 p.m. PDT Tuesday, Feb. 3. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PDT Wednesday, Feb. 4, I’ll pull another name.

Note: Due to the high cost of international shipping, a winner from outside the United States will receive an e-gift card.

  1. Tundra is hilarious. In addition to creating Tundra, Chad is also making a movie with his brother: Moose, the Movie. My favorite Tundra is the one with 2 hikers and a grizzly bear. The bear has 1/2 of a hiker in his mouth while the other shouts “play dead” as advice.

    • Have you seen “Clyde’s Last Selfie”? Pretty darned funny. If not, go to his online store and look under “mouse pads.” And yeah, I expect we might get the world premiere of “Moose” at the local art cinema. Or at least I hope we will.

  2. My husband and son love Tundra. My husband takes pics of the cartoon from our newspaper and texts them to our son that lives in another state and doesn’t get the paper. They would love these.

  3. These cards would be our “shot of AK” for the winter. We left Fairbanks in 1989 but come back every few years to visit family. Love this guy’s work!
