I stand (sort of) corrected.

th-2When I announced my fifth anniversary giveaway, at least one reader pointed out that it isn’t the anniversary of five years’ worth of writing but rather the fifth birthday of my first-ever post (April 30, 2010).

Duly noted. Sorry about the misstatement.

Now let’s get on with the important part: the fact that you still have time to enter and the fact that the prizes are really swell thanks to some very generous fellow bloggers.

How swell? Glad you asked.

Here’s what’s being given out:

$100 Amazon gift card: This one’s sponsored by RetailMeNot, the Internet’s largest online coupon website.

$50 Amazon gift card and a $50 eBay card: Both are from the FatWallet comparison shopping website, which offers cash-back in four categories on Amazon shopping and in 17 categories on eBay shopping.

$25 Amazon card: Luke Landes of Consumerism Commentary contributed this one — which is funny, because Consumerism Commentary just sent me a $100 Amazon card. I earned that scrip by reading and commenting regularly on the site. You should, too.

Five $10 Wal-Mart cards: Curtis Arnold of CardRatings.com and BestPrepaidDebitCards.com is providing this batch. Initially I believed it to be three cards, but Curtis stepped up his game. Two more winners!

Books, books, books

Lots of reading material is also being given away:

“The 10 Commandments of Money plus Deal With Your Debt: Personal finance author Liz Weston will personalize these to you – or anyone – if you like. (Hint: They’d both make excellent gifts for someone graduating from college.)

How I Make Money Blogging: Crystal Stemberger is donating a copy of her e-book, which tells you everything you need to start a site of your own. (The last time I gave away a copy, the response was tremendous — apparently a lot of you are interested in starting your own sites..) Crystal is also donating a copy of her new book, Managing Your Monthly Nut,” which focuses on improving your financial health.

Confessions of a Credit Junkie: The author, Beverly Harzog, is donating this one.

Four from Mary Hunt: The author of more than two dozen books and the Debt Proof Living website is contributing copies of her 7 Money Rules for Life and Cheaper, Better, Faster,” a two-hour DVD of Debt-Proof Living LIVE! and the CD of 7 Money Rules For Life.” (Okay, so those last two aren’t books. Sue me.)

The Eventual Millionaire: Personal finance blogger J. Money, of Rockstar Finance and Budgets Are Sexy is donating a copy of Jaime Tardy’s new book.

And three from me: Frugal Isn’t Cheap,” in which Claire Levison explains the difference between smart use of money and parsimony that wrecks lives; Megan McArdle’s The Up Side of Down,” because it’s liberating to know that “failure” isn’t necessarily the end; and Think and Grow Rich,” a reissue of the 1937 self-help book by Napoleon Hill because, well, retro.

That’s a lot to give away all at once, but a fifth anniversary seemed to call for a grand gesture. Thanks for riding along – now let’s see where the next five years take us.

If you’ve already entered over at the original giveaway announcement, please don’t enter again here. And if you haven’t, here’s how to do it:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 7 p.m. PDT Tuesday, May 13. If I don’t hear back from the winners by 7 p.m. PDT Wednesday, May 14, I’ll pull new names. Please don’t make me do that.

  11. I don’t know if you remember me, but I was a poster from back in the old MSN Money Smart Spending days. I don’t comment much on any blogs or articles but I did want to say I have been reading your blog for a while and do enjoy reading it.

    Thanks!

    • I do remember you. Still treasure your response to the friend who told you to make your own laundry detergent and save two cents per load. You wondered how you’d spend that extra 14 cents (max) per week.

  12. Happy anniversary! I love reading your blog, not least because you are a fantastic writer. I’m a copy editor, and that matters to me. Here’s to many more years of great tips and tricks and Surviving and Thriving!

    • And here’s to copy editors! They save me from looking dumb. Well, in my work for pay, that is; here on my personal site I am editor-less and thus must take the blame if I goof.
