See you at a pair of Phoenix meet-ups.

thI’m heading to Phoenix for the holidays. Wanna have coffee?

Usually I try to organize a meet-up whenever I visit my daughter. This time around I plan two such get-togethers:

Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 9:30 a.m. to noon

Saturday, Dec. 31, from noon to 3 p.m.

(Note: Originally I’d said “9 a.m. to noon.” But that was before I realized/remembered that the restaurant doesn’t open until half an hour after that. D’oh!)

Yep, both times can be awkward: the Wednesday one because working folk may not be able to make it, and the Saturday one because New Year’s Eve. Still, I can offer two good reasons to be there.

One: You can talk about money, frugality and lifeitsownself with at least one and possibly two fellow money nerds. While my daughter will be working on Wednesday, I might be able to entice her to attend on Saturday. (If she has enough spoons, that is.)

Two: You can get the friends-and-family discount on our two books. On Amazon, “Your Playbook For Tough Times: Living Large On Small Change, For The Short Term Or The Long Haul” and “Frugality For Depressives: Money-Saving Tips For Those Who Find Life A Little Harder” cost $9.49 apiece (plus shipping if you’re not a member of Amazon Prime). But if you make it to the meet-up(s), you can purchase either title for just $7 each.*

The meet-ups both take place at the Wendy’s restaurant, 2640 W. Thunderbird. (Watch for the Home Depot, with which it shares a parking lot.) It’s a nicely appointed place and in the past the staff hasn’t seemed to care how long we sit and chat.

And apparently the fast-food industry has stepped up its game regarding coffee. I wouldn’t know that for sure since I don’t drink the stuff. Wendy’s also sells iced tea and lemonade along with soft drinks. Those who read me regularly can guess what I’ll be sipping. (Hint: It has bubbles and, since it’s from the Value Menu, it’s refillable.)

Hope to see you there on either day, or on both. If you think you can’t make it unless the event is a little earlier or runs a little later, e-mail me at SurvivingAndThriving (at) live (dot) com and maybe we can work something out.

*Potential buyers: Please bring cash or plan to use PayPal. Neither of us is set up for credit cards.

  1. Eh, if I get up early I might be able to catch up on emails enough to make it for a couple of the hours on Weds. I’ll do my best to be there, anyway.
