Share your thoughts, and maybe win prizes, at a pair of Twitter events on July 23.

thI’m participating in a pair of Twitter events tomorrow. You should, too, because you likely have something to contribute and/or you might learn something.

Did I mention the prizes, including Visa and Amazon gift cards?

Now that I have your attention, let me describe the fun:

At 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern) on Tuesday, Ally Bank will host a TweetChat whose theme is “the true value of giving back.” Participants will discuss topics such as budgeting for cash donations, a trust for your favorite cause and how charitable donations can affect your federal tax return.

The tweets won’t be strictly nuts-and-bolts, however. Those who attend will be asked to share their thoughts on volunteering/donating, and how these actions affect and enrich their lives. Two lucky participants will be chosen to win a $100 Amazon gift card apiece.

To “attend” the TweetChat, follow these steps:

  • Leave an RSVP using instructions at this Ally Bank blog post. (You must be 18 or older and a United States resident to win.)
  • Follow @AllyBank during the chat.
  • Use hashtag #AllyMoneyChat to follow/participate in the action. (Hint: Using the bank’s Twitter Chat Room makes it easier.)

An early start on the holidays

“Christmas in July” is the theme of a Twitter Party hosted by the online coupon/deal site Savings.com on Tuesday evening. The community of “DealPros” – bloggers who specialize in saving money while still living well – will discuss smart ways to save money on gifts, décor and meals.

Twitter parties are fast and furious. At times your head may spin because the tips and reaction tweets are so rapid-fire. But you are well-nigh guaranteed to learn something – and probably a lot of somethings – from this community.

You might win something, too. Here’s what’s up for grabs:

  • Two $100 Visa gift cards
  • A $50 Visa gift card
  • Panasonic camera model number DMC-XS1K
  • $100 Amazon gift card

The party gets started at 6 p.m. Pacific (9 p.m. Eastern).  Leave an RSVP at this Savings.com blog post and then follow along on Twitter using the @holidaysavings hashtag. Or set up a #holidaysavings tab on Hootsuite.

Note: You must be actively tweeting to win, and you must respond via direct message within 5 minutes of being chosen. Those tweets move fast, so pay attention.

  1. Am I the only one who does not know what language you are speaking?

Hashtag? Follow at? Tweetchat? Actively Tweeting? This is probably why I don’t have not used my Twitter account in so long, I don’t know where to find it.

  2. Suzanne

I’m lost with with you Nancy. Hootsuite? Hashtag? My Twitter account has probably been deleted for non-use. Great prizes though….

I barely understand it myself…! If you do the TweetChat on your regular Twitter account, put #AllyMoneyChat (the hashtag) on all your comments.
You need to sign up to follow Ally bank on Twitter, i.e., you go there and search for its feed and click “follow.”
Hootsuite.com just makes TweetChats easier, i.e., it separates out a specific chat for you.
    Off to #AllyMoneyChat now…
