The Coffeehouse Cliche giveaway.

51HixOXuQXL._AA200_As summer slips away we prepare to move more of our lives indoors. That is, unless we’re clever enough to live somewhere that’s temperate year-round.

Warm interiors. Hot drinks. Burning inspiration.

If you were ever going to write poetry, plays, short stories or the Great American Novel, you’re a lot less likely to do it when the weather is fine. No, fall and winter is when we head indoors and think deep thoughts.

(Or watch televised sports or “The Walking Dead,” or indulge in whatever nerdy pastimes make us happy.)

This week’s giveaway will give you two tools of the trade, or rather the accoutrements of the affected: a notebook and some coffeehouse scrip.

You’ve seen these guys and gals before: They sit with their notebooks and sip hot drinks and furrow their creative brows. Sometimes they write furiously, other times appear to suffer from a tragic case of writer’s block.

Technically I should be giving one of those trendy Moleskine notebooks. But what I’ve got is a “Little Brown Notebook,” a 5¾ inch square journal made of light brown paper. Each page has an illustration or quote from the works of Mark Twain, but there’s plenty of room for your own scribbles as well.

Oh, and it ties shut with a ribbon so no one can take a quick peek while you’re getting a refill – the Coffeehouse Cliché giveaway comes with a $10 Starbucks card. Everyone knows that caffeine jump-starts the creative process.

Win this and you can become a creative, trendy dude or dame – but if you want a beret, you’ll have to supply your own.

To enter:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 7 p.m. PDT Tuesday, Sept. 3. If I don’t hear back from the winners by 7 p.m. PDT Wednesday, Sept. 4, I’ll pull another name.

Note: Due to the cost of international shipping, any winner who lives outside the United States will be given an alternate prize of an Amazon gift card.

  3. Am clutching my sides with laughter (or pain.) Am here in the desert of So. Cal. and we’re trapped in our air conditioned houses for at least another month of the hottest part of “summer”. Over 100 degrees outside for most of this month.

Things will not really begin to cool until October. THEN we can go outside to breathe real air. Don’t know what fall is.

BUT…we’re walking around in light jackets most of the winter. Can’t have everything, can you?

  4. I love Starbucks; I am actually one of those writers who brings her notebook to cafes. Even though it’s often noisy there, it doesn’t bother me as much as it does when I’m trying to write at home or at the library. Maybe it’s because I have the coffee and yummy pastries to distract me. Also, thanks to your tip about Swagbucks, I’ve been able to earn several Starbucks gift cards.
P.S. I put down an old e-mail address that I no longer use in the comment section, since I was afraid that my comment might link to my e-mail account (as it’s done in the past) rather than my blog.

  5. Dear Donna,

Yes, the moleskin notebooks are delightful, but I use those $1.00 hardbound books from the Dollar Store. However, if I win, I would like to give the Starbucks gift certificate to my niece. One post; two gifts. Not a bad return:-)
