Another TSA-friendly toiletries bag up for grabs.

thHad enough of winter? Maybe it’s time to go somewhere — and this week’s giveaway is a great travel companion.

The prize is another bag of travel-sized toiletries because (a) spring break is almost here and (b) it’s always a popular giveaway. Maybe that’s because you, like me, resent the hell out of paying $1.44 an ounce for toothpaste.

“Sized right for flight,” my left hind foot: It’s another way to gouge the consumer because manufacturers know how many of us want to go carry-on only.

What’s in the bag? So glad you asked.

The winner will receive:

  • A half-ounce bottle of Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Smoothing Essentials lotion (this stuff is concentrated and will go a lot farther than you might expect)
  • A tube of Crest Pro-Health toothpaste
  • A teeny-tiny tin of Glide floss
  • A 1-ounce bottle of Inner Grace bath/shower gel, from Philosophy; according to the label it can also be used as shampoo, but that won’t be necessary because you’ll also get…
  • A 1.7-ounce bottle of Pantene Pro-V shampoo
  • A small container of Vanilla Bliss lip balm from The Body Shop
  • A half-ounce bottle of hand sanitizer
  • An itty-bitty flashlight on a carabiner clip; attach it to your keychain, your handbag, a belt loop or whatever)

That last one might sound odd. But a flashlight is one of the 13 lightweight travel essentials that I always bring along. In part that’s because I don’t want to be without light if there’s a power failure. Another reason is that I often stay in hostels, and a tiny flashlight helps me navigate the darkened dorm room floor — a minefield of suitcases and shoes — if I have to go to the bathroom at 2 a.m.

The whole shebang comes in a quart-sized Ziploc bag, as specified by the TSA. Don’t you feel safer already?

To enter:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 9 p.m. PST Monday, March 4. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, I’ll pull another name. Check the site’s Facebook page on Monday evening, since I post the winner’s name there each week.

  1. I’m in, again. This is also a GREAT bag to tote to the gym or pool.

Refills of comparable items can often be found at CVS, Walgreens, dollar store and/or WalMart for about $1 each BUT that is about the same as most of us pay for a full size item like toothpast or the sanitzing gel.

  2. I recently subscribed to your newsletter. I also resent the price of a few squirts of toothpaste. I get the majority of my toothpaste for fifty cents or less with coupons 🙂

  3. Don’t you just hate it when you have a handful of travel size items for a trip and on your way to the register you see a hugh tube of toothpaste for $0.99 and Pantene on sale 2 for $5.00 and you are paying $2.29 for 2 showers !!! A great giveaway for sure.

  5. I travel quite a bit with my job and keep the small sizes of things that I need. Keep in mind that most hotels leave shampoo, soap, lotion and some leave toothpaste in your room — DAILY. I also keep those as well. Refill the bottles that you have if you can from home. Some shampoos may not work well on your hair and you will always have a bit of home with you when you travel. Several hotels also offer free things that you don’t have to pack: toothbrushes, razors, etc. Don’t be afraid to ask.

  6. A hotel I stayed at in December had a small tube of toothpaste alongside the other samples (shampoo, etc.). Of course I stashed each one!! I should be set for a few trips – especially because I refuse to pay so much for a small tube!!

    I follow on Facebook.

  8. Nice giveaway. I rarely fly but those small sizes are great for weekend trips to relatives or such. It keeps the weight down in the carry on or overnighter and takes up a lot less space. My dentist gives those small tubes of toothpaste that makes it nice also.

  11. There is an invention that is needed! A refillable small tube for travel toothpaste! I travel with small refillable bottles for lotion and shampoo/conditioner, but I always buy the small tubes of toothpaste or use the ones the dentist gives out. It would be nice to be able to fill a small tube from the large size purchased!
