Easter giveaway: Alaskan artisanal chocolate.

Why should kids have all the fun at Easter? For the grownup palates in my audience, I’m giving away a delicious treat from Chugach Chocolates, a bean-to-bar chocolatier right here in Anchorage, Alaska.

(In fact, it’s located down the street from me, which may or may not be too close for comfort.)

I’ve given away Chugach Chocolate items in the past, as part of my desire to support the local economy. Given that Easter is on April 9, I figured it’s time for another chance at delight.

“Bean-to-bar” is exactly what it sounds like: The company roasts raw cacao beans and turns them into fascinating flavors. Some of them, such as the Alaskan Kelp and Cayenne, sound a bit scary. But that bar – like the others Chugach creates – is in fact great fun.

Chugach has single-origin bars made with beans from Fiji, Guatemala, Madagascar, Vietnam and other countries. As for its Alaskan flavors, you could sample flavors such as Dark Chocolate with Alaskan Birch Syrup Toffee, Dark Chocolate with Mat-Su Valley Potato Chips (that’s a local chip company) and Dark Chocolate with Prince William Sound Sea Salt.

The winner gets to choose one of the following items:

8-Piece Tasting Pack. This is a collection of one-by-one inch pieces of Alaskan Birch Syrup Toffee, Alaskan Kelp and Cayenne, Prince William Sound Sea Salt, Espresso Beans, Mat-Su Valley Potato Chips, Pink Himalayan Salt, Single Origin Madagascar and Single Origin Fiji.

Chocolate 101 Flight Tasting Kit. Got foodie friends, or just want something fun to do one evening? This is the kit for you. You’ll get two 1.75-oz. bars (Prince William Sound Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate with Alaskan Birch Toffee) and a .88-oz Single Origin Dark Chocolate bar along with three tasting sheets and tasting sheet instructions.

Chocolate 201 Flight Tasting Kit. This one kit has three single-origin bars (likely from Fiji, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, although availability may vary) plus three tasting sheets and tasting sheets.

Fancy-up your Easter

Remember: Fancy chocolates also make a great Mother’s Day gift, or an excellent hostess gift. I send them out each Christmas to my brother and some friends.

Or maybe you owe yourself a little treat? If so, support a small business and buy Alaskan.

To enter, do one or more of the following:

Please leave a separate comment for each entry (e.g., “Follow you on Twitter” or “Subscribed by e-mail”).

The deadline to enter is 6 p.m. PDT Sunday, April 2. I notify winners via e-mail, so be sure to check yours. If I don’t hear back by 6 p.m. PDT Monday, April 3, I’ll have the random number generator choose a new name.

Note: Due to the high cost of international shipping, this giveaway is available only to U.S.  residents.

  4. Not a snowball’s chance in Georgia that i will win anything, but i have to say that, the last time you offered Chugach Chocolate, i was curious and bought some. HEAVEN IN A WRAPPER!! Especially the birch syrup toffee.

So, even if i don’t win a thing, i might just have to order another lovely binge – you have helped the local economy, and i might have to buy a larger pair of jeans, lol

  5. I actually had chocolate from there when I visited my sister who lived in Palmer. It was delicious. I sure wouldn’t mind having more.
