Entering the giveaways? Check your e-mail!

imageLast week’s giveaway — a trio of Ray Troll magnets — went begging twice. The first reader whose name I pulled did not claim the prize, even though she had more than the usual 24 hours in which to do so. (I got too busy to check my e-mail.)

The second name I pulled? Also a non-responder.

The third time was the charm for a reader named Jenzer, who turned out to be an excellent match: Some years back she’d given a Ray Troll T-shirt, “Bass Ackwards,” to her dad, an avid angler. So glad the magnets went to a good home.

This short, semi-chiding post is a reminder: If you enter, why not check to see if you’ve won?

It’s possible that some of you check your e-mail right at  7 p.m. PDT, don’t see a “You won!” notice from me, and sign off with a shrug. But 7 p.m. is simply the deadline to enter. Sometimes I don’t send the winner a note right away.

When I do, I give that person 24 hours to respond, dated from the time of notification. So if I pull your name and you don’t answer, I move on.

Some of my prizes are pretty small, e.g., a $10 Starbucks card. (Although that particular giveaway garnered 216 comments — you guys sure do love you some Starbucks.) But each is still, um, free. A bonus. A moment of serendipity.

So if you enter, check your e-mail the next morning. You snooze, you lose — and someone else wins.

  1. I am ashamed to be the first unnamed “loser”. I completely forgot that I needed to claim my prize.

Can I claim temporary insanity? Meanwhile, I’ll go look for those lottery tickets I keep forgetting to check…….

    • I hated to do it, honest…But after one winner took a week to write back — and then only after I published a post asking where the heck she was — I realized I needed to set some boundaries. Tough love, and all that.
Keep entering! There’s no one-win-only rule.
