Giveaway: $20 in Amazon scrip.

Even as I tossed out three possible prizes and asked you to vote I realized what the answer would be. Of course most people were going to want the $20 Amazon.com gift card.

After all, not everyone lives near an AMC movie theater and not everyone has a tween-ager in his life to whom to give Jean Chatzky’s “Not Your Parents’ Money Book.”

  1. Ok, so I would take Amazon gift card, even though they still sell foie gras. I was able to get a ceramic heater for my poor Mr. Turtle with the last one I won. Plus the book we have been looking all over for–“Doggies” by Boynton. The union suit was a really good idea!

  5. Random Comment – I purchased a gift card from gift card granny early this week. It was an eCard, which could only be used online, it arrived two days later and I spent it the following night. It was a fast turn around and it saved me $10 off a $100 card!

  7. Maybe with this card and the living social one I paid $10 for, I’ll take the plunge and get an e-reader, which I will fill with free books from the new york public library! If not, I will stock up on gifts for folks with birthdays coming up soon.

  8. How can smart shoppers survivie without Amazon? I think we get half of what we buy from there! Just got our 3 year old a $45 Imaginext aircraft carrier set for his birthday this fall, for only $18 there. Amazing deal on a HUGE set he otherwise wouldn’t have gotten.

  10. Who wouldn’t love an Amazon shopping trip? I’d probably save it and give it to my son toward next semester’s text books. He buys his own books (I pay tuition), but I can be a little generous, right? Oh, oh! Pick me (she says, jumping up and down and waving her hand in the air. Yes, I’m that kind of girl).

  11. I’ve been reading you for years via Smart Money and added your blog to my favorties when I noticed the link a while back – I’m a big fan! Inotice your last posting on Smart Money is SEVERAL weeks old – is this because ofyour trip? You recently mentioned you weren’t planning to ,but I think you should post from overseas. Hope you have a great time either way, and thanks for what you do!

    • @Maryegankirk: I write the personal finance column every other week and I post every Friday on Smart Spending. The most recent ones would have been Feb. 2 and Feb. 11, respectively.
I’ll almost certainly be writing about my trip to the U.K. The hostel in London has pay-to-play Internet, so I’ll be using a link I found that shows free wifi hotspots in the city. I’m hoping there are some close to where I’m staying. You know how easy it is to lose track of time when you’re online…and I’d be paying not just a minute-to-minute charge, but a 3% upcharge for using my credit card ouside the U.S. Since I’m trying to have as high a time as I can on as low a budget as possible, I’ll be hiking out in search of wifi on a regular basis. Wonder if the McDonald’s restaurants over there have it?
      Thanks for coming over.
