Giveaway: A $25 Office Depot gift card.

You know you want some office supplies. Let me hook you up.

This week I’m giving away $25 in Office Depot scrip. Think of the possibilities:

  • Buy a little something that you’ve wanted but couldn’t really justify on your current budget.
  • Put it toward a piece of technology you’re saving up to buy.
  • Include it in your “congratulations, graduate!” card.
  • Starting in late July or early August, hit the school-supply sales (5-cent notebook paper, baby!) and then deliver the goods to a social service agency or a school in an economically depressed neighborhood for the teachers to hand out.
  • Buy non-tech, non-office stuff. Hint: The Office Depot in my neighborhood sells chocolate.
  • Hang on to it until Black Friday rolls around — Office Depot has done some swell deals in the past.
  • Sell it on eBay or through a discounted gift cards website.

Or come up with your own idea and post it along with your entry.

To enter, do one or more of the following:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 9 p.m. PDT on Monday, June 5.

  1. This would be very cool as there is an Office Depot right next door to my Aldi. Would that be “multi-tasking” or what!!

  2. While the chocolate is tempting, I think I’d use it for something we need rather than something I’d just like! School supplies on sale, ink, or things I need for one of my volunteer event coordination projects.

  3. I love me some office supplies and my sister teaches in an inner-city school, I’m sure her students could use some supplies.

Hope you’re having a great time in Alaska.

  6. Wow! Now that I am using the library for almost all my books, office supply stores have become my new favorite stores to wander and touch and sometimes treat myself. I follow via RSS already. Wonderful of you to give stuff away like this.

  8. I would love this because our local store always has awesome back to school deals and a $25 gift card there would probably take care of the majority of my kids school supplies if I used it then.

    thanks!!

  11. Who said “office supplies” from Home Depot? More like home renovation supplies. I’ll take it though.

  18. Hi and Happy Weekend! 🙂 Well, since I’m waiting until the fall semester for my next course, I have a couple of months to pick out a new backpack, had to throw out the one I was using. Had it for ages. I imagine that if not now, hopefully by August they’ll have some in store. If not, then hmm, lots and lots of chocolate would be nice… 🙂

  22. My two youngest would love this gift card, they are in need of school supplies for fall 2011. They are very much into art as well, so crayons, pencils and markers are always a big hit.

  23. Office Depot also has coffee! Woo hoo! The scho0l supply stockup is also great.
Do you have a column planned about saving money on the ridiculous cost of textbooks? My sister sent me links to textbook rental sites; they’ve saved me up to 80% off of school bookstore prices for the last few semesters. Let me know if you want any info.

  25. I loved the post about trying to reciprocate when you are with Linda. I am the same way and thought others were too until I got to a certain age and realized I had run into a batch of takers and no givers in sight. Made me reevaluate al the giving, giving, giving, I had been doing without a thought about reciprocation. It took me until about age 55 to realize that I was no longer willing to be taken advantage of and couldn’t figure out for the life of me how I had managed to give and give and give for 55 years and not have a problem with it. Now at almost age 62 I am very discerning on who I give to and my daughter is one of the few I will continue to be that way with…others not so much…I think the word got around and the line became too long and my resources had always been limited, but I just didn’t see it as a problem until I needed some help and they just didn’t see it as their duty to balance the scale. Hard lesson for me to learn, but I’ve learned it and I now don’t have a problem saying No, I can’t do that for you.

  27. Another idea for maximizing buying power. Take your empty ink cartridges to Office Depot to get $3 credit in the store at the end of every quarter. You can use that credit with this card to buy something on sale and pay less with the cartridge credit. Call or look online for the details.
