Giveaway: FinCon18 box of swag.

At this year’s Financial Blogger Conference (aka FinCon18), I had the privilege of moderating a panel stocked with four great folks: Liz Weston, Joe Saul-Sehy, Miranda Marquit and Harlan Landes.

The topic was “how to do a great interview,” whether that’s for articles or podcasts, and the panelists shared tremendously valuable info. Audience members had great questions, and we talked until the next group of presenters needed the space.

Bonus: Abby didn’t get sick this year. I didn’t get sick this year, either.

 

We both had a great time learning, meeting up with colleagues and, yeah, cruising “FinCon Central,” where 100 tables were set up to clue us in as to what’s new in the personal finance world.

Which brings me to the real point of this column: Swag. Lots of it.

Those tables were loaded with shirts, blank books, socks (yep, socks), stress balls and so many other tchotchkes. Thank the FinCon Central folks for this, my first giveaway in quite a while.

Thank my daughter, too, because not only did she remain healthy, she picked up promo merchandise to help me fill a large flat-rate Priority Mail box. (Sorry: It won’t show up wrapped all pretty-like with a big red bow. But it’ll still be full of free stuff!)

 

The person whose name is drawn this week will receive the following items:

The official FinCon18 T-shirt. It’s green and has a flamingo on it.

Two reusable shopping bags, one from the Alliance For Lifetime Income and the other from Bloomly.

A wireless charger from Charles Schwab.

A t-shirt from StudentLoanify, with the legend: “Student loans suck. We make ’em suck less.”

Stress balls: One is from Elevate’s Center for the New Middle Class and the other is from Ace Your Retirement (a digital coaching program from AARP).

Socks! They’re pale aqua and feature pretty little parachutes with the Bestow logo.

A mug with the logo, “Making personal finance personal. #FinCon.” Two teabags to get you started, too.

A blank book from USAA. It would make a good journal — or perhaps a financial diary?

Also from Awin, the cutest li’l smartphone stand you ever saw. It looks like a wood-and-canvas beach chair.

A t-shirt from Earnin, sort of a mulberry color with the words “payday.every.dang.day.”

A “pop button” for the back of your cellphone, to make it easier to grip, via CapitalOne.

A three-by-five-inch notebook from AWeber — a perfect size for purse, backpack or glove compartment.

A cute little green piggy bank from Fearless Finance. I started it off with a penny.

    I’m glad you and Abby had a good time–and didn’t get sick. About time you both got to enjoy the experience to the utmost! Starting the piggybank off with a penny reminds me of a tradition I was once told about: Whenever you give a pouch or a urse as a gift, you should always put a coin in it, to ensure that it will never be empty. I don’t know where the tradition comes from, but I’ve never given away a pouch or purse without following it.
