Giveaway: Gift card – your pick.

I mailed some important paperwork to my brother on Dec. 4. It was so important that I used priority mail, both for the three-day delivery function and the fact that it’s easy to track.

Guess what? He still doesn’t have it.

Typical online holiday orders + the additional online shopping thanks to the pandemic = one heck of a mess. In fact, FedEx and UPS have nixed new deliveries for some retailers, which means that packages ordered after that are being sent via the U.S. Postal Service. The Washington Post reports that this has led to “widespread delays and pushed the nation’s mail agency to the brink.”

“Postal employees are reporting mail and package backlogs across the country, and working vast amounts of overtime hours that have depleted morale during another surge of coronavirus infections nationwide,” according to the Post.

Which is why I hope that the winner of this giveaway opts for an e-gift card. That person still won’t get the card in time to do any holiday shopping, but they can:

  • Print out the gift card and give it as a present, or
  • Shop the hell outta the post-holiday clearance.

The winner will get his or her choice of retailers. And if a physical card is specified? Well, okay, but you might have to wait a while. I doubt the historic backlog is going to disappear overnight.

For your chance(s) to win, do one or more of the following:

Be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry (e.g., “Subscribed via e-mail” or “Follow you on Twitter”).

The deadline to enter is 7 p.m. PST Thursday, Dec. 24. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PST Friday, Dec. 25, I’ll have the random number generator draw a new name. This is a shorter-than-usual window but I need to get this stuff in the mail if it’s to be gifted.

  1. We must think alike – I love both of your ideas of gifting an e-card or using it for post-holiday clearance. I’m determined to not buy anything this week. Just waiting for Aldi to get their 2# bag of shredded cheddar for $5.55 stocked. Then finito! Follow via email. Thank you Donna.

  2. Got a solicitation in the mail from my bank . Received it Dec 17. The letter said deadline to activate Dec 15.

What do we all expect after the sabotage of the post office by politicians?

  5. I mailed a priority mail box to my niece on the other side of the state—-mailed Monday and she received today, so took 5 days, rather than the 3. I wasn’t concerned as I know they are inundated this time of year. Thank you Donna for the giveaway! Happy Christmas to you and yours!!

I have a 4 packages that are really late. One was to go to West Virginia, went from PA to Ohio, ended up in Talahassee, FL, and is still floating. Over a week now for Priority too! One from Fed Ex got lost and wasn’t found, so I had to reorder. What a mess!

Merry Christmas to you, Donna and your honey
and to all your readers out there!

  8. I feel so bad for the postal workers in my area. A few post offices have been shut down in my area due to employees testing positive for COVID.

Thank you for this giveaway. I subscribe via email.

  9. My biggest concern with the mail is that I’m not getting all my bills to pay. Then when I do mail them back, they get there late. I don’t like paying bills on-line, but I may have to.
Thank you for the generous giveaway!

  11. I think the postal service is heroic, working while some administration members are trying to destroy them so they can be privatized and join other services that suddenly cost more and provide advantages only to the stockholders. I think it is a miracle that we in Alaska can send a letter to Florida for one cheap stamp. Anyone who saw what happened to Britain when they privatized their mail should pray we don’t come to that. Sorry, enough of a rant…Thank you for finding a way to do a giveaway without burdening the postal service even more!

  14. I have two relatives who used to work for the post office. They told me what a mess it was at Christmas. I had mail come late last month, but it was because of the election mail-ins.
