I have come into possession of a $10 Target gift card. At first, my thoughts were practical: Buy something useful, like toilet paper or canning jar lids.
Then I thought it would be more fun (albeit less frugal) to give the card to someone else. Will that someone be you?
Obviously a sawbuck’s worth of scrip won’t change your life. But it’s a $10 head start on something you need or want. Here are a few suggestions:
Summer fun. Flip-flops or freezer pops. A new swimsuit cover. Sunscreen and/or aloe gel. A big fat beach read of a paperback.
Philanthropy. Treat someone you know to something they love (“Mom, I know how much you love Talenti gelato and I also know you won’t buy it for yourself. Enjoy!”) Get some dog or cat food/treats to drop off at a pet shelter. Put the card in a note and send/give it to a friend you know is having a rough time.
Practical tactics. You just knew I’d bring that up, didn’t you? A package of Fruit of the Loom to replace some of your church* undies. Cold medicine for the inevitable illnesses this fall. Tampons, toothpaste or any other item you really don’t want to get caught without. A spice you’re nearly out of, or some canned tomatoes and pasta to make your pantry look fuller.

I can think of lots of ways to spend your generous gift card! Thank you!
I would love to win the giftcard!
Thanks for a chance to win. I think times are financially tight for many of us these days so 10 dollars would be most welcome.
I have followed you on Facebook for years!
I’ve read your blog for many years.
I get emails from you when you write a new post
Follow you by email and Facebook. Also want to thank you for turning me on to Swagbucks 12 or so years ago. I have used it for too many gift cards to count. I hope that they have continued to send you 10% of my earnings/winnings over the years as advertised!!!
Thank you for continuing these generous giveaways! I’m in!

Thank you for offering the giveaway! Would love to win it.
I follow you via email & would likely utilize the card for a practical purchase. Thanks for your generosity in offering the card up for a giveway, Donna.
Thank you!
Thank you!
I have won two of your giveaways going back quite a few years. So I’m good – if somehow I come up the winner you can pick again. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you do. 🙂 Thanks Donna! (Also still use your yogurt recipe…)
Thank you.
Thanks for the blog, which is how I follow you. The giveaway is a lovely bonus.
Donna, Please sign me up to win the gift card. But if you pull my name out of the hat, please keep it and buy that t.p. After all the witty and helpful columns you have given us, I would much rather it be spent on pricey Alaskan for your family. A clean butt is a happy butt!
Ha! We have bought one of those Tushy brand attachable bidets, so we’re using a lot less paper these days.
As for the card: You know I’ll just give it away to someone else, right?
Thanks for reading, and for your kind words.
I would give it to a mother for school supplies.
Nice.
Enter me in to win. I already follow you on facebook and email.
A very nice gift. If I get it, I am going to buy as much food in cans/boxes, match it with my own money and donate to our local food pantry. We have so many seasonal workers and the cost of living here (resort area) is sky high. I have enjoyed your posts since your MSN days. You are so relatable. Sue Braun
$10 is nothing to sneeze at. Thanks for the chance, Donna! : )
This would be great watching grandsons this summer and they LOVE treat!
Hi, if I win, would you please donate the card to a local shelter? I work for a non-profit and we are all struggling so much right now to keep our doors open at the same time the need is growing on so many fronts. I know it will be welcome where ever you chose to share it.
What a kind thought! I would give it to the Clare House family shelter.
The local Target store is maybe 3/4 of a mile from my house, within walking distance, so I can be extra frugal and save gas when I go there. However, if the temperature is in the 90s or 100s, I’m going to drive anyway! Better to use gasoline than to come down with heat stroke!
True that.
I follow by email. Always glad to hear from you.
Thank you, Donna. This is a nice treat for summer.

Long time reader here. I rarely shop at Target, but my daughter loves it, I would love to win this and give it to her.
So many cats and kittens at my local shelter need support. That’s what I would use the gift card for. Thank you for offering the giveaway 🙂
