Hey, Chicago: Wanna have breakfast?

I’m presenting a talk at the Financial Blogger Conference this coming weekend in Schaumburg, just outside Chicago. My plane lands early Friday morning. Can anyone recommend a good breakfast place? And does anyone want to join us?

I say “us” because a reader named Holly is meeting me at the conference hotel at about 7 a.m., and she suggested that others might want to join us for a cup and a jaw on the way to work.

The Chicago Marriott Schaumburg is at 50 N. Martingale Road. I notice there’s a Corner Bakery about a mile from there, so that’s a possibility. I have a story about the Corner Bakery across from the courthouse in downtown Chicago — if you show up for breakfast, I’ll tell it.

We can talk about personal finance, writing or pastries. Show up in the hotel lobby at 7 a.m. or thereabouts. I’ll be the one looking very tired because it’s an overnight flight.

  1. Hey, Donna!

Turns out I’m not attending like I thought on FB a few months ago. I got lured into another writers’ conference this summer and a workshop on Monday, but I would love to meet on Friday since I live in the area.

The Corner Bakery is very close, and there is a Wildberry only about a three more minutes away. I happy to do whatever works best and can even offer three others a ride to and from.

I need to leave the hotel by 9 a.m. though.

  2. Aw! If only I had a car I could drive out to Schaumburg and have breakfast with you! That would be so nice! If you were here in the city, I could go, but I can usually only go to the suburbs that can be accessed by trains.

    • @Neurotic Workaholic: And if I were staying longer I’d come down to see you. I’d initially planned to stay a few days at the Harris Family Hostel downtown — but that was before I was chosen to go to SaveUp 2011, which starts Oct. 12. I just have too many deadlines to spend the extra time in the Windy City. Wish I could, though.

  3. Donna, How long will you be in Chicago? I can’t go to Schaumburg because of school and no car but if your here all weekend, maybe we could meet another time? Please email me! Thanks!

  4. I wish I could actually meet you in person, but I’ve got a cold and getting out to Schaumburg would probably wipe me out. (Not to mention that I’m sure no one wants me to share the cold with them!) For those w/out cars, Schaumburg has some great transit options: http://www.ci.schaumburg.il.us/TRANS/PTrans/Pages/PaceBusRoutes.aspx

Many of the PACE routes and the Woodfield Mall Trolley will be pick up at area Metra train stations and even at the Rosemont Blue Line el.

  5. Alas! I work two blocks from the Harris Family Hostel… I definitely would have waddled myself down to breakfast with you near there.
Sorry I’ll miss you this time you’re in the Windy City, but I hope you have a great time!
