Let me buy you a coffee.

th-1It’s that odd time of the year: Sometimes chilly and sometimes balmy. Even here in Anchorage we’re feeling mood-swingy with regard to the weather: in the 40s and raining sideways one day, sunny and in the low 60s another day.

So what do we want: hot chocolate or fancy iced tea?

Whatever it is, I’m buying the next round. This week’s giveaway is $10 worth of Starbucks gift cards.

This particular scrip always has a tremendous appeal, and although I’m not a Starbuckian myself I can see why others are: You can get a plain hot cup of mud or a dessert-like specialty java, a sweet lemonade or a cold spiced chai, a rich cocoa or an intriguingly flavored tea.

Don’t like Starbucks? Sell the cards on the secondary market, or give them as a gift. Myself, I’m thinking they’d make a fine “Secret Santa” present to the person whose name you drew at work.

Those of you with elementary-aged kids could give them to the teacher with a thank-you note from your child. (“Dear Teacher, Thanks for making me look up words in a real dictionary instead of just Googling everything.”)

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 7 p.m. PDT Tuesday, Sept. 15. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PDT Wednesday, Sept. 16, I’ll pull another name.

Note: I’m heading to the Financial Blogger Conference in New Orleans late Tuesday. (Overnight flight, landing around suppertime Wednesday. Whee!) With luck I’ll remember to bring the cards with me and mail them when I land. If not, the winner will just have to wait. Sorry ’bout that.

  1. Thanks for offering the Starbucks gift card for this week’s drawing. It’s my once a month treat and I’d love to have it funded by Surviving and Thriving!!

  2. I would love to win this. I drink any type of coffee (with caffeine), but also like tea. My niece and her kids are liking something that looks like a milkshake, strawberry or cherry, that I have not tried yet.

    Thanks for offering this.

  3. Always a GREAT treat. If I win this I will give it to my DD for a stocking stuffer. She NEEDS it much more than I as she is in the middle of a divorce and on her new budget Starbucks is OUT.

  4. Donna, I’m with you — never been a Starbucks person. The one time I went to one, I ordered an iced tea that was nearly $4. I said to my friend, “This is the first time I’ve paid this much for a drink without alcohol.”

But I, like you, sense that holiday train a’comin'”

  5. If I won, I would send this to my best friend who is planning her wedding. She’s also working full-time and pursuing her bachelors during weeknights. She’s a great friend and a hard worker and she deserves a treat while hitting the books or running between work and school. 🙂

I think she’d go for a pumpkin spice latte (PSL).

  6. Would be a great fall treat! Here in Atlanta, though, we still hit the 80s regularly right now. Temps won’t even start to drop for another couple weeks.

  7. As much as I love coffee, I’d put this in my daughter’s Christmas stocking. She just got a job and moved to NYC and she loves Starbucks.
    Thanks for the generous giveaway!

  8. I like your ideas about ways to use the gift cards. Those of us who use them can invest in an actual bag of coffee to extend the treat.
