Mother’s Day giveaway.

Yep, it’s early. Mother’s Day isn’t until May 14. But I need time to publicize the giveaway, mail the prizes to the winners and, if need be, allow them time to send the gifts along to the mothers/maternal figures in their lives.

And yep, those were plurals: I’m giving away a trio of prizes suitable for Mother’s Day, if you celebrate. This giveaway is part of my continuing “Support the Local Economy“ series, wherein I choose prizes made here in Alaska. Once more I’m featuring the jewelry of my friend Linda B.

But first, about that “if you celebrate“ thing. I’m well aware that some people do not participate because their moms are dead, or they’re no-contact with their mothers.

Still others lament what they see as the Hallmark nature of this holiday. In fact, Mother’s Day founder Anna Jarvis herself was appalled by the commercialization. According to History.com, Jarvis spent “the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar.“

Don’t let any of this stop you from entering the giveaway, though. If you win, you could treat a friend or relative to a new necklace – or maybe keep it for yourself. Heck, you could use it as the beginning of your holiday shopping push. (If you celebrate.)

The first necklace is probably my favorite. Although I’m not a big fan of owls per se, there’s something appealing about this little guy:

Next up is a butterfly against copper:

This one is an oval resin capture full of what look like pearls but are really just beads:

All the necklaces are on 18-inch chains. If you like, I can mail your prize directly to the intended recipient and you can warn them with a note. (Or a Hallmark card.)

How to enter the Mother’s Day giveaway

As always, it’s pretty easy. Just follow one or more of the following suggestions:

Please leave a separate comment for each entry (e.g., “Follow you on Twitter” or “Subscribed by e-mail”).

The deadline to enter is 6 p.m. PDT Wednesday, May 3. I notify winners via e-mail, so be sure to check yours. If I don’t hear back by 6 p.m. PDT Thursday, May 4, I’ll have the random number generator choose a new name.

Note: Due to the high cost of international shipping, this giveaway is available only to U.S.  residents.

  3. These are so beautiful! I have been a jewelry lover since I was a little girl. My Grammie always took me to the jewelry store with her and I wear necklaces every day! This is a wonderful giveaway!

  4. Don’t consider this comment an entry, because I’m going to sit this one out. But I want to thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for sagely noting that Mother’s Day can be painful for those of us who have lost our moms, and also for people who have had a Mommie Dearest in their lives. The same holds true for those of us who were never fortunate enough to have children. I cringe every time someone wishes me a happy Mother’s Day, and wish I could stay home and just binge watch Outlander. (Hard to do since I don’t have cable or Netflix. Oh well, there’s always Longmire on the over-the-air channel, even if Sam Hughen isn’t in it….) So to all my fellow sufferers, hang in there!
