Return of the Coffeehouse Cliche giveaway.

thI had every intention of making my next two giveaways about conference swag. Having been to three cons in the past three months, I have enough tchotchkes — some useful, some goofy — to create two medium flat-rate boxes of oddness.

But I’m getting ready to go out of town yet again, and the idea of sorting and listing all those things made me want to lie down and scream. Thus I came up with a compromise: yet another “Coffeehouse Cliche” giveaway with a couple of items from the Financial Blogger Conference. That is to say, the two easiest ones to grab.

This time around the notebook is a real conversation-starter: Its cover says “NerdWallet” in blue and lime-green.

The lined book is courtesy of the personal finance site NerdWallet.com, which you should bookmark. Not only can it save you money, it’s full of interesting original studies and research. I’ve linked to the site both for MSN Money and my own site, mostly recently in “Why are guys still expected to pay?

Naturally you need something with which to transcribe your deep thoughts (or to play hangman with a buddy), so I’m including a pen from the Joe Taxpayer blog (“Financial commentary for the average Joe”).

The combination of black NerdWallet notebook and Joe Taxpayer pen will indicate that you’re actually not one of those cliches, i.e., the dark-clad folks who muse moodily with mochas and Moleskines, furrowing their brows as they outline the next Great American Novel or attempt to parse out life’s mysteries in verse.

Or play hangman.

Maybe you have a favorite local java joint, but this particular giveaway also includes $10 worth of Starbucks gift cards. If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t do commercial coffeehouses, sell the Starbucks scrip and use the proceeds to patronize your local roastery.

To enter:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 7 p.m. PDT Wednesday, Oct. 15. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PDT Thursday, Oct. 16, I’ll pull another name.

However, the winner will have to wait until some time after Oct. 24 to get the prize — as noted, I’m heading out of town once more. Patience is a virtue.

Note: Due to the high cost of international shipping, a winner outside the United States will receive an e-gift card.

  1. Would love to win. I recently found a Starbucks near my office. Also have been reading your blog for several years now and always enjoy it.

  2. I follow you on Facebook and email. I have never actually been to Starbucks, but I am a coffee drinker. So there is a first time for everything. AND, I could always use a notebook and pen, to keep track of expenses when I travel.

  3. Would love to win. My Starbucks trips mean so much more to me now than I make only one visit a month. The giftcard would fund my next few months trips.

  4. Since I send little care packages regularly to my daughter at school I’d love to have one sent my way for a change! And I always ask merchants for samples and freebies to save for my daughter’s care packages!

  5. I can always use a new notebook, although the hubby would probably point to the pile of semi-used notebooks our children have provided for us. Enjoy conference number four.

  6. I’m on the email list and would love a chance to win a “NerdWallet”, if for no other reason than I think the name alone is hiliarous and it would horrify my kids! 😉

  9. Yay, more coffee! I would love to win as Starbucks is one of the things I had to give up by deciding to recently become a stay at home mom (and thus a one income household).
