Over at my day job — the Living With Less personal finance column at MSN Money — I’m sharing info about online discount codes.
“Nab a $19 discount in 80 seconds” provides a primer on the five basic types of discount codes offered at sites such as Fat Wallet, Savings.com, Sunshine Rewards, Rather Be Shopping and Retail Me Not. These codes work just like coupons, with a couple of significant differences:
- No clipping or filing
- You don’t have to listen to folks in line lowing like cattle when you pull out a fistful of paper Qs
An online discount code can provide big savings, quickly. It might add a lagniappe to your purchase, pay for or deeply discount shipping costs, or result in some scrip for your next visit.
Best of all: Nobody has to know you’re using coupons! If such things bother you.
I’d love it if you read the piece and saved money on your next trip. I’d also love it if you left a comment at the end of the article.
Finally, a reminder: You have until 9 p.m. PDT Thursday, June 10, to enter to win a $100 Amazon.com gift card. You don’t have to jump through virtual hoops to participate; click this link to find out more. The giveaway is sponsored by the Mr. Rebates cashback site.
Happily left on a comment on msn. I’m one of the folks who stumbled across one of your early msn columns – the living on $12K or whatever – and became a loyal msn money reader after that.
I always search for coupon codes before I make an online purchase. I’m using InBox Dollars and I’ve made some money there with their online shopping rebates, but I don’t like getting email, so I’m nearing my second $30 payout, and then I’ll cancel it. Luckily, I just discovered FatWallet which offers cash back for shopping, so I’ll have a replacement without the emails. I’m excited.
Love those coupons. Have found lately that some of the retailers will let you use up to 3 promo codes per transaction. One for shipping , one for $$ discount off and sometimes a 3rd for a little gifty. : ). Beats going standing in line .
