Yesterday I put up a post about what moms want (and don’t want!) for Mother’s Day. Today I got an e-mail from the FatWallet shopping and cash-back site that mentioned increased cash-back rates in certain categories.
You realize that Mother’s Day is in five days, right?
If you want to give a gift but haven’t shopped yet, take a look at the following suggestions from FW spokesdude Brent. Note: The links are affiliate links, i.e., if you wind up ordering something then I get a small finder’s fee.
If that bugs you, just access FatWallet through its main URL, www.fatwallet.com, and look for the deal(s) that way. These are some decent savings no matter how you obtain them.
Groupon special deal: From Thursday (May 8) through Saturday, Groupon has raised its cash-back amount to 12%. If you’d planned to purchase a spa day, restaurant voucher or any other Groupon item for Mom (or yourself!), you’ll get 12% of the purchase price back.
Buy Local Online: This section discounts and cash back on services, events and purchases in more than 150 regions nationwide. I followed the link and found a mix of offers specific to Anchorage and those that were available nationwide.
Amazon Prime: Obviously you’ll get free shipping (unless you’re sending items to Hawaii or Alaska, sigh). But FatWallet members can also get cash back on certain Amazon.com categories, including watches, jewelry and Amazon Local deals.
Books/magazines: If your mom likes to read (or if you’re looking at birthday or holiday gifts down the line), you can save up to 40% with cash back in these categories.
Discounted gift cards: Not everyone thinks gift cards are a good gift. (Just ask my friend Liz Weston, a personal finance writer who’s trashed the category in the past.) Personally, I love getting them. I also love giving them, where appropriate (again, not everyone’s idea of a good time) – and I like getting them at a discount.
(If you don’t see what you want at the above FatWallet link, try the aggregator site GiftCardGranny. It’s still possible to get the card in time for Sunday – I’ve received cards as quickly as three days after ordering – but you should prepare a sweet little “your gift is on its way” note just in case.)
And if you must do flowers or gift baskets, you’ll get up to 50 percent off flower delivery from online florists. Some mothers really love getting bouquets. Others might prefer caches of candy, wellness items, cookies or even cheese.
Whatever you choose to buy (or not buy), Sunday is coming up fast. Just sayin’.
I told DJ I would like to kick back with a cold drink in my hand and watch him do yard work. He responded that he would prefer a gift that wasn’t manual labor.
Why is it the Mother’s day is the beginning of yard work season? I’m telling you, DJ will be scaling a tree with clippers again this year.
And Happy early Mother’s day to you. You are mother hen to all of us. I’m grateful for you.
Cluck. Cluck. I hope you get to watch him sweat as you lie in a hammock sipping an adult beverage. That is, provided the hammock is attached to trees other than the one he’s trimming.
Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who saved her son $44 large in tuition. You rock!

Thanks for the linky love!
You’re so welcome.
Thanks for the great mention of FatWallet Donna – any time we can help people save, especially when it’s making moms smile, is what makes our job so awesome. Happy Mother’s Day!
