Giveaway: FinCon18 box of swag.

At this year’s Financial Blogger Conference (aka FinCon18), I had the privilege of moderating a panel stocked with four great folks: Liz Weston, Joe Saul-Sehy, Miranda Marquit and Harlan Landes.

The topic was “how to do a great interview,” whether that’s for articles or podcasts, and the panelists shared tremendously valuable info. Audience members had great questions, and we talked until the next group of presenters needed the space.

Bonus: Abby didn’t get sick this year. I didn’t get sick this year, either.

We both had a great time learning, meeting up with colleagues and, yeah, cruising “FinCon Central,” where 100 tables were set up to clue us in as to what’s new in the personal finance world.

Which brings me to the real point of this column: Swag. Lots of it.

Those tables were loaded with shirts, blank books, socks (yep, socks), stress balls and so many other tchotchkes. Thank the FinCon Central folks for this, my first giveaway in quite a while.

Thank my daughter, too, because not only did she remain healthy, she picked up promo merchandise to help me fill a large flat-rate Priority Mail box. (Sorry: It won’t show up wrapped all pretty-like with a big red bow. But it’ll still be full of free stuff!)

Giveaway: “Frugality For Depressives.”

Greetings from sunny Phoenix! I’m visiting my daughter and meeting some deadlines. While I do have to finish the paying work, I also wanted to put up a new post. Yet why come this far south and spend my non-work hours writing?

The solution came to me this morning: Do a giveaway post! Haven’t done one in a while, after all.

And why not make the prize a copy of Abby’s book? That’s a hostess gift she can really appreciate. #virtualetiquette

One lucky reader will get either a paperback or Kindle copy of “Frugality For Depressives: Money-Saving Tips For Those Who Find Life A Little Harder.”

Of course a mother would think her kid’s book is awesome. But I’m not the only one who thinks the book can help depressives and the chronically ill (and maybe others — more on that below).

Sound like anyone you know?

Come share your own wisdom, whether it’s instinctive or hard-won, and you may be rewarded: Wise Bread is giving away four prizes.

Win this $10 Starbucks card.

Just got back from Phoenix, where they’re already drinking cold beverages. Here in Anchorage it was 1 degree when we got up.

Depending on where you live you might be sipping a fancy lemonade or wrapping your frozen fingers around a mug of cocoa or coffee.

The choice is personal, but if you win this week’s giveaway the beverage won’t cost you anything. That is, if you like Starbucks — which a lot of you do, if previous giveaways are any indication.

Giveaway: “Leap,” by Tess Vigeland.

The subtitle to this book by personal finance journalist Tess Vigeland is a bold proposition indeed: “Leaving a job with no Plan B to find the career and life you really want.”

Let me say that I do not necessarily recommend leaving a job with no Plan B. However, I’ve done it myself and survived – and I sure wish I’d had “Leap” to help me along the way.

It would have made things a lot clearer and helped with the anxiety and doubt. Part autobiography and part self-help book, it helps readers deal with the fear and uncertainty but also gets them to think clearly about their working selves: “Who am I without my job?”

The answer may enlighten in terms of what new work to seek – or, indeed, whether to seek a new definition of labor.

Giveaway: Another $10 Starbucks card.

th-1Every time I give away a Starbucks card the response is enormous. Not being a coffee drinker, I don’t see the attraction. Then again, as a frugalist I guess that if someone wanted to give me $10 worth of hot chocolate or tea I might get riled up as well.

Now that the weather is cooling – or downright cold – in most of the country I figured it’s time to buy someone a drink. Will that someone be you?

Giveaway: The big box of FinCon16 swag.

thDue to my daughter’s mystery illness, we both missed huge chunks of the 2016 Financial Blogger Conference. Huge bummer for us both, especially since we’d looked forward to meeting with some local readers.

(I did get to say hello to Ro in San Diego, a regular reader/commenter. Thanks for dropping by, Ro.)

My daughter and I each managed to visit the expo hall, where a ton of organizations and businesses were handing out goodies. Obviously both Abby and I wanted to learn about new products and services, but I must admit to thinking how much fun it would be to share these items with a lucky winner.

FinCon swag giveaways have been popular in the past. Pretty sure that the big box of FinCon16 swag will keep that streak alive.
