thA watched pot never boils, but an unwatched pot full of raspberries and rhubarb can make a real mess of your stovetop.

Yep, I’m back from Florida and I’m making yogurt. And messes.

I didn’t get home until 1 a.m. Tuesday and was so glad to be on the ground I didn’t care that it was covered with snow. Total time between waking up in Tarpon Springs, Florida and getting into my own bed in Anchorage: 23 hours. Alaska is really far away from a lot of places.

Since then I’ve been scrambling to play catch-up with several different projects (including multiple interviews for one of them), so I have neither time nor inclination to write something deeply meaningful. However, I wanted to do a quick roundup.

First: One of the two winners of last week’s giveaway did not claim the prize in time. Thus the random number generator has chosen Kimberly as the new winner of “Outsmarting the System: Lower Your Taxes, Control Your Future and Reach Financial Freedom.”

Kimberly: If you’re reading this, check for the e-mail that I just sent. I need to hear back from you by 10 p.m. PDT Thursday, March 20.

Again, folks: If you’re going to enter the giveaways, check your e-mail the day after the entry deadline. It would also be a good idea to check the Surviving and Thriving Facebook page the next day, to see if I’ve posted a second-chance winner.

Another winner, and another chance to win

The random number generator has been busy this week, choosing three winners for the tax book and also a winner for the Minor Celebrities contest. That winner is Mrs. Short, whose tenuous claim to fame sounds like this:

“My dad’s 7th cousin was Jimmy Stewart. I’ve always heard that at reunions and such, but one time they actually had a family tree – and there he was!

“I’ve been quite fortunate in meeting some “rock stars” back in my day. Probably nobodies to you guys, but it gave me and my sister (10 years younger than me) quite a thrill – No Doubt (ok, that’s a big one), Everclear, Smashmouth, Brian Vander Ark from the Verve Pipe, Good Charlotte (that’s Benji and Joel Madden)… I could go on with more names that none of you care about!”

Her prize and/or burden is to receive a copy of “Elvis Presley’s Pharmacist Was My Sunday-School Teacher.” Lucky her!

As for the chance to win: Ally Bank is sponsoring another of its Tweetchats on Tuesday, March 25. The topic is “Women and Finances,” i.e., the relationships women have with money. Co-hosted by Bankrate.com, it will take place at 2 p.m. EDT; you must be following both Ally and Bankrate and you also must to RSVP at the above link.

Did I mention that two $100 Amazon gift cards will be given away? Or that a Surviving and Thriving reader once won a $100 card at an Ally Bank Tweetchat?

Hope to see you there — and if you win, you need to come back and tell us so. If I can’t win, I’d like for one of the regular readers to luck out.
