Who the hell would want to hear bloggers talk?

Back in the 1920s, as the silent-movie era came to a close, the head of Warner Bros. Studios was confident that the talkies were no threat. Perhaps this story is apocryphal, but if it didn’t happen, it should have: Mr. Warner was quoted as saying, “Who the hell would want to hear actors talk?”

You have the chance to hear three bloggers talk on “Podcast #59 – Microsaving” over at Consumerism Commentary. That’s me, Flexo and Tom Dziubek. (Nope, I couldn’t pronounce his surname either. But it’s probably worth at least 100 points at Scrabble.)

“Microsaving” may sound a little dull, but we talked about everything from recycling cans to getting paid to watch porn.

There are many ways to build an emergency fund. Some ways are just more fun than others.

Frankly I was a little nervous about the interview until our preliminary chat. As soon as I heard their accents I asked them whether they were from Philly or Jersey. (I was born and raised in South Jersey and have lived in Philadelphia.) Two minutes later we were chatting like we’d had the same homeroom teacher, and I was jonesing for a cheesesteak.

  1. Though I’d tune in for the content, I never like to see or hear bloggers. It kind of ruins the fantasy/illusion of who they are (that I’ve created entirely in my head just from reading their work). It’s kind of like reading a book, then seeing the movie and thinking, “No, no, they got this character all wrong!” :-p

  2. I’m new to your blog finding it only yesterday and it’s funny to see this post today. Yesterday I posted a short three-minute podcast
(my first) of myself reading something I had written after thinking about what voice my readers hear when they read my words.

I’m not sure why being heard in that way became so important, but so far those commenting have been positive. I guess with my southern roots there could have been some references to the movie, ‘ Deliverance’ as that’s usually where people tend to go when taking a swipe at folks from Georgia.

At least I haven’t quite picked up a mid-atlantic sound yet from my time in the UK. While I wouldn’t mind having Madonna’s abs, I really wouldn’t want to take all the jabs she has due to her changing accent.
