Win this book.

Lately it seems that all I publish are giveaways, with relatively little real writing. I blame sudden illness, a new job and some additional freelance opportunities.

Not that I don’t like giving things away. I do. That’s why I have a weekly contest. This week it’s, “Be CentsAble: How to Cut Your Household Budget in Half,” by Chrissy Pate and Kristin McKee

The authors, who did cut their monthly spending by more than 50% each, promise that you don’t have to give up niceties like name brands or organic produce.

Pate and McKee even factor in the occasional splurge, which certainly helps keep people from losing their budgetary happy thoughts.

To enter:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 9 p.m. PST Monday, March 19. If I do not hear back from the winner by Wednesday night, I will choose another name.

  1. I really enjoy your articles. I just discovered you a week or so ago, but have learned a lot from you already. I would really like to receive this book, especially as my budget includes NO books for a while (I love to buy books).

  2. This book would come in handy about now. We’ve had some higher than expected medical bills that, while we can afford to pay them, put a dent in our emergency fund.

  4. Hope you are well soon. While I like a giveaway as much as the next guy, I really subscribe to any given blog for the writers comments. That having been said, it sounds like a very helpful book. Count me in!

  5. I think factoring splurges in is awesome and keeps you on track. I let myself buy coffee once a week – limits my spending on coffee and let me tell you, that coffee is savored!

  7. I could probably use this book. Am on a very limited income right now, and just can’t seem to get my grocery bill lower. Been trying most of the ideas, but hubby won’t eat too many beans, nor fish.

  8. I would love to read this book. It might help me to reach my goal a lot faster if I could use their tips to save even more. Retirement is so close and yet so far away.

  9. I’d love to have this book! My husband wants to retire in a few years and I’d sure like to make that possible for him. I still have 20 or so years to go before I get to retire. If I could find great ways to reduce our already frugal budget then my income could support us and he could get the break he deserves.

I hope you’re feeling better – being sick is no fun at all.

  10. Sounds like an interesting read. I’m always a bit suspicious of anything that offers to cut my budget in half – I think being able to do that may depend on how much you’re spending in the first place! Still, it’s fun to read about and you can almost always pick up a few useful tips from anywhere.

Hope you have a great weekend!

  11. I am always interested in what others do to save smart! I am one of those folks who sees a penny on the sidewalk and picks it up. It goes into a special piggy bank and when it’s full, that’s my splurge!

  12. What do I do to save money that is unique? I round up to the nearest $5 when entering checks or debit expenses. It takes a bit to get used to, but by holiday time that is always extra to shop the big sales.

  13. I always buy clothes out of season – usually right after Christmas. I live in the NW and most clothing can be worn year round.

  15. I would like to win the book. My husband recently told me we needed to really cut back on our spending due to his recent (but hopefully temporary) disability. The checks are still coming in but at some point they will be a bit smaller.

If I win this book I’ll give it to him to read during his visits to the doc.

  16. I entered the HGTV Dream House giveaway and read today that they received over 81 MILLION entries!! I’m thinking that my odds on THAT giveaway aren’t too good….but I’d love to win this one, since I have a lot of kids and really do need to reduce my spending! Here’s hoping that you don’t get 81 million comments! 🙂

  18. I peeked at this on Amazon, it’s got some good reviews!! I love reading these sorts of books, because even if you don’t save that 50%, even if it’s just 5%…that’s still a savings!!

  21. I really could use this book. I am lucky to get a new job starting tomorrow after being laid-off 6 months ago – BUT it’s with a cut in pay. So I’ll need all the help I can get cutting back.
    Thanks!!

  23. I am an e-mail subscriber on my work e-mail and I follow you on Facebook. I love your column. It’s funny and sensible. I would love the book because I teach Homebuyer Education and Financial Literacy and every additional savings tip I can hand out to my students is appreciated.

  24. I would like to read this book, whether I win it or not. I’m on a fixed income, unable to work, and despite frugal efforts, I’m still in the hole each month.

  25. I too would so like to read this book. It sounds like one to own rather than just ‘read’ from the library. My funds are limited despite two jobs, and every little bit helps.

  26. “all I publish are giveaways”… Yeah, well, except for Monday the 12th’s post. I’d give away my soul to write one piece like that in a year, to say nothing of once every few weeks. 🙄

  27. Thanks for offering the book. I’m an aspiring writer who needs direction and answered prayer for guidance. I am full of words that need to be written. It’s frustrating but I HOLD ON to my dream of being a writer.
