Are you smart enough to manage your money?

Anybody out there make a New Year’s resolution to take charge of da dollars in 2011?

Anybody out there who didn’t make that kind of personal vow?

Whoever you are, you need this book:

“Personal Investing: The Missing Manual” (O’Reilly) was written by a trio of financial specialists who address saving for retirement, education and long-term health care.

Plenty of us came up with no money education whatsoever. The authors demystify dollar-related doin’s such as:

  • What is investing?
  • How do I create realistic goals?
  • What if I can’t abide risk?
  • Will I get rich right off the bat?
  • Would a REIT be wrong? (Okay, they didn’t put it that way. I just couldn’t resist the pun.)

There’s lots more — it takes a whole book, after all — but you get the picture.

  1. I’m going well at keeping a budget, but within the next few years I want to start investing my dollars (rather than just saving my dollars). Thanks for the chance to win!

  2. This sounds like a great book to show you how to get your feet wet in investing. Investing seems so overwhelming. I could really use a manual.

  3. What a kind offer! My investment advice for the future? Phone companies…AT & T or Verizon as data and the next generation of phones will drive demand. And electric utilities…with the movement to electric and hybrid vehicles the winner will be the providers of that electricity. The losers will ultimately be the oil companies. Remember …as folks retire those 15 MPG cars and trucks and replace them with hybrids delivering 50 MPG…mileage will more than triple…Just my 2 cents…
