Giveaway: Alaskan artisan chocolate.

Why should kids have all the fun at Easter? To even the playing field, I’m giving away some more of those lovely Chugach Chocolates.

The company is a “bean-to-bar” chocolatier in our neighborhood, specializing in dark chocolate. It features some interesting flavor combos, including but not limited to Alaskan kelp and cayenne and Alaskan birch syrup toffee. One of their current limited editions is dark chocolate with spruce tip/lingonberry marshmallows. Not making that up!

You can see why their slogan is “traditionally made for the modern mouth” – if someone had offered me kelp chocolate 50 years ago, I would have run screaming from the room. But it’s pretty tasty stuff.

Here’s a look at what’s up for grabs – winner’s choice:

Mini-Bar Variety Box: Teeny li’l tasting samples of bars made with Prince William Sound sea salt, locally made potato chips, espresso beans, pink Himalayan sea salt, and those birch toffee and kelp/cayenne varieties. Note: Because these bars are small, the winner gets two boxes.

Chocolate 101 Flight Tasting Kit: Learn the why of chocolate flavors with this gift. You get two 1.75-ounce bars of Prince William Sound sea salt and Alaskan birch toffee plus one .88-ounce bar of single origin dark chocolate. They throw in a trio of tasting sheets and tasting sheet instructions, so you can sound as foodie as you wanna be.

If you don’t celebrate Easter, consider it a “welcome to spring” gift to yourself, or to someone else. Personally, I’d be tempted to keep it a secret from family and friends and just enjoy the goodies in solitude.

  6. Anything with lingonberries in it sounds delicious to me. Swedish on my mother’s side so grew up with them on rice pudding. And I’ve also never met a chocolate I didn’t like. Thanks for the chance to win.

    • They grow wild here, and are referred to as “lowbush cranberries.” I have a wonderful quick bread recipe that uses orange juice and butter instead of milk and oil; the orange and lingonberry flavors mesh really well. The only issue is picking them! They’re small and grow on plants that are only a couple inches tall, so you really have to want those berries to spend hours crawling around on the ground.
