Giveaway: Dollar Dig swag, $50 Amazon card.

Dollar Dig widget

Recently the creator of the Dollar Dig cash-back site sent me a box of logo items. Bless his heart.

While I will donate some of these things to a local shelter, I’ve also decided to pass along a few to my readers.

Not only is it just plain fun to win something, I figure the fruity-bright colors will add a little cheer to the dark days of winter.

Bonus: Winning a T-shirt is God’s way of saying, “You can put off doing laundry for one more day!”

Or, if you’re more virtuous: “Look! A brand-new T-shirt to wear to those workouts you swore you were going to do every day in 2019!”

Either way, here’s what’s up for grabs:

Two mango-colored T-shirts with the Dollar Dig logo on the backs. You can choose two mediums, two larges or one medium and one large. (About that last: Share one with a different-sized friend, or swear that while you’re starting off with the size large by summer you’ll be working out in size medium.)

A foldable nylon backpack, banana-yellow and quite useful. It collapses to the size of a 3-by-5 index card, which means it could fit in your coat pocket or glove compartment. Have it on hand for unexpected shopping trips, or for those trips during which you buy more than will fit in the single recyclable shopping bag you brought along. Or fill it with roadside emergency kit items and toss it in the trunk.

Some “pop socket” collapsible cellphone stands. Opened, the item gives you a better grip on the phone while you talk or text. If you’re given to watching videos on your phone, the stand will prop up the device. I’m sending enough to share with household members or friends. (Or hang on to them for next year’s Christmas stockings. They’re useful little buggers.)

$50 Amazon gift card. Originally this was me chipping in a $10 card, because why not start off the New Year with free T-shirts and some retail scrip? When the Dollar Dig guy heard this, he offered to round up the $10 card to $50. Well, okay then!

Why use Dollar Dig?

If you don’t already use Dollar Dig or other cash-back shopping sites, you’re likely leaving money on the table. It isn’t just for cute shoes and holiday gifts – smart consumers use these sites for everyday needs to, including but not limited to pet supplies, diapers, contact lenses, home-improvement items, office supplies, paper goods, drugstore stuff and furniture.

You can also get money back for renting a car, using tax-prep software, booking airline travel, subscribing to magazines, sending flowers or doing genealogical research.

For a shot at the Dollar Dig stuff and the $10 Amazon card, do one or more of the following activities:

Be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry (e.g., “Subscribed to your writing newsletter” or “Follow you on Twitter”).

The deadline to enter is 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PST Saturday, Jan. 12, I’ll have the random number generator pull new names.

Note: Due to the high cost of international shipping, a winner from outside the United States will receive only the Amazon gift card.

  1. Sounds like some great and useful loot! I would love to be entered and will have to check out Dollar Dig as that is a site I am not familiar with. Happy New Year Donna!

  2. I know this doesn’t relate to the post, but since leave a comment was an option – your blog post “Turning Invisibility into Stealth” was one of the best pieces I’ve ever read, and as I get older and further along my life journey I re-read it occasionally.

  7. Like the reader above, I also saw your name mentioned on the Non-Consumer Advocate. However, your name was familiar because I remember reading articles you wrote for MSN Money some time ago about surviving college on a budget. I loved your sensible, actionable approach to frugality & I am very happy to have the opportunity to read your articles again via email subscription.

    • Thanks, Lisa. All of the MSN Money writers were let go on the same day in 2013, so I’ve been freelancing for other personal finance sites ever since, in addition to writing two PF books* — and, of course, maintaining this playground for words.

Hope you’ll poke around a bit.

  8. I’m posting far after the closing date, because I got behind on my blog reading. I’m commenting because I’m hesitant to use sites like the one cited in this article for reasons of both privacy and because I prize my ability to resist being bombarded with offers and “deals”. opening my inbox to a constant source of chatter would be too distracting, IMO. It is for this reason I will never get a Target Red Card or install their Cartwheel app. I save more money by simply darkening their door as infrequently as possible. Did I mention privacy concerns? Yes I did, but it bears repeating. You never get something for nothing. If these sites didn’t ultimately drive traffic and encourage spending, they wouldn’t exist. Just something to be aware of in advance.

On a related note: I was heartbroken when MSN Money pulled the rug out from under their very inspiring PF writers. Have you ever thought of doing a “Where Are They Now?” article? I’ve kept up with you via your blog(s), but there are others, like MP Dunleavy, who I really would like to know where their financial quests have led them.

    Happy New Year, Donna!

  9. Ha! I just double-checked the closing date. Hmmm, now I am confused. The 9th of January is not a Friday…maybe I’m not past the deadline, but that’s okay, my comment still isn’t meant to be an entry, just gentle food for thought.
