Giveaway: The tax season survival kit.

thThe folks at H&R Block recently mailed out a couple of logo items for the 2014 tax season. Naturally I just had to turn mine into a giveaway – adding, of course, a few artistic touches of my own.

There’s a particularly high snafu potential this year due to the Affordable Care Act. Too, there was the customer service misstep by Intuit, which made major changes to the Deluxe version of its popular TurboTax software in a way some customers didn’t like. (H&R Block responded with an offer of a free replacement product; follow the link for details.)

So in advance of any issues you may or may not have, you should enter to win the 2014 Tax Season Survival Kit. It includes:

A calculator. Sure, you could do the math on the calculator on your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Or you could kick it old-school with a hand-held number machine bearing an H&R Block logo.

Lined journal. Speaking of old-school: Use this to keep track of tax info during tax year 2015. Or write poetry in it, or give it to your kids to play hangman in when you’re stuck in traffic. One thing’s for sure: You’ll be able to find it easily even if your home office is cluttered, because it’s that super-bright H&R Block green.

Analgesics. Even if you use tax-prep software or have a professional run the numbers, getting the paperwork together can cause some real headaches. If that’s the case, these four Advil caplets are there for you.

Caffeine. If you’re planning to do your taxes in one big whack, bring home your favorite beverage with the kit’s $5 Starbucks gift card. Or put the scrip toward a pound of beans and brew your own at home.

Chocolate. Because it makes everything — even taxes — a whole lot better. The survival kit includes a 3.5-ounce bar of Godiva dark chocolate (72 percent cacao).

The kit won’t entirely erase the hassle of getting your taxes together. But it can improve your mood a little during the process.

To enter:

If you do any (or all!) of these things, please leave separate, additional comments to get credit for each entry.

The deadline is 7 p.m. PDT Tuesday, Feb. 17. If I don’t hear back from the winner by 7 p.m. PDT Wednesday, Feb. 18, I’ll pull another name.

Note: Due to the high cost of international shipping, a winner from outside the United States will receive an e-gift card.

  1. We take our taxes to an accountant for mental health reasons (they drive me crazy!), but we can always use another calculator. What I really want is the chocolate! Thanks.

  2. Chocolate is good anytime! I always dread taxes, but ours isn’t complicated enough to actually pay somebody to do it. Guess I could have our DIL do it, she’s a CPA and during tax season we babysit at least one Sat. a month. That WOULD be a fair trade, wouldn’t it?

  4. This will be my first year of having to wrangle with Obamacare and the penalties since I have been unemployed through the last 6 months of 2014. I will need all the help that I can get. Thanks for the giveaway.

    • I am done my taxes for this year, but sure could use those things anyway. I am always telling my hubby that I need to buy a calculator and take it with me while shopping. Our store does gas points rewards, and my mind is awful. I try and buy just the $50 to get the extra points and always think I have it, but end up under. I try to add in my head and subtract my coupons, but never works. I even forget to bring a pen and paper to total. Could use the chocolate and coffee too, to settle my nerves-LOL!
