Support the reader economy: Giveaway #2.

My new “Support the Reader Economy” giveaway series is back! For an explanation of why I’m doing this, and why I think it’s important, see the original post.

This time – and probably every time – the support the reader economy giveaway will be a $15 gift card of the winner’s choice. Given how startlingly fast the price of gasoline has jumped, I’m wondering how many of you would choose a gas gift card. Just think: It would probably cover at least two gallons!

You could also request a gift card for something else you need (food, drugstore stuff, whatever) and divert the $15 you saved to the fill-’er-up fund. Again: It’s not much, and I’m not suggesting that $15 will solve anyone’s problems, but it can’t hurt.

And as a reminder, that $15 could be for:

Someone else. A relative, a friend, the teacher who’s helped your kid so much.

Someone you don’t know. For example, you could donate it to a family shelter to buy diapers, or to a senior center for its coffee fund. Or go shopping for such things yourself, then drop them off.

A door prize. Want to surprise the folks who show up for the PTA meeting or the Neighborhood Watch committee? A gift card drawing would do it.

A pet charity. Pet food and litter are always needed at your local rescue group or no-kill shelter. Find out what’s most crucial and where they like to buy it, then donate the card. Or, again, go buy the stuff yourself and drop it off.

Holiday shopping. Hannukah is 269 days away. Christmas is 277 days away. Kwanzaa is 283 days away. Take the gift card to a place you frequently shop, or give it outright as a gift to someone on your list.

How to enter the giveaway

You can enter five different times (see below). To clarify the first tactic: Don’t leave a comment every day. Only the first one will count; any others will be discarded.

Another note: Since this is an e-card giveaway, readers from outside the United States are encouraged to enter. If there’s a way for me to order a card to wherever you want to shop, then I’ll do it.

Finally: As the giveaway series goes on, you can continue to enter even if you’ve already won. The random number generator doesn’t play favorites. #SoRandom

But you can’t win if you don’t play. Here’s how to do that:

Leave a comment below (limit one comment for the entire giveaway period)

Be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry (e.g., “Subscribed via e-mail” or “Follow you on Twitter”).

The deadline to enter is 6 p.m. PST Wednesday, March 30. Winners are notified via e-mail, so check yours! If I don’t hear back from the winner by 6 p.m. PST Thursday, March 31, I’ll have the random number generator choose a new name.

  1. My first thought was to donate it to my neighborhood Catholic work house who provide hot meals, hot showers and clean clothes to the homeless on a daily basis no matter what happens! Thx! Cheryl

  2. What a wonderful idea…..I volunteer at my local animal shelter and if I win, that card will be getting kitten food! Just a hint if anyone wants to get food for animal shelters, kitten season is fast approaching and they can’t eat the same food as adult cats. All shelters can use help, especially for special need pets.

  7. get your emails and then jump onto your site then get lost in the back issues, frequently! Also follow you on facebook. Also just followed you on Twitter and pinterest, but those two locations won’t up your exposure, considering my pathetic use of either platform
