A lot is going on right now (99 percent of it positive), which means my AWOL-ness* has continued. Why not start 2026 with a giveaway? This time it’s a $25 Amazon gift card that’s up for grabs.

A lot of people find January a tough month financially. The bills for holiday spending (even modest spending) are showing up, and homeowners in colder places need to spend more for heating. (One Anchorage woman posted that her gas bill doubled due to a stretch of below-zero days.)

How to get Amazon Prime for free.

For millions of people, Amazon is a way to get whatever they need, whenever they need it – and wherever they are. (More on that in a minute.) A $25 Amazon card means different things to different people. Summer is winding down, so for some it’s time to buy crayons or school clothes. The child-free might be pricing new winter accessories, or restocking hobby supplies.

Gardeners could be on the lookout for canning supplies. Thrifty folks may be doing a little early holiday shopping (if they aren’t already done). And since summer’s not completely over, possibly you’re in the market for sunscreen or new flip-flops or a good beach read.

Giveaway: “Homeschool Hacks” and a $25 Amazon gift card.

This was the year for homeschooling, all right – whether parents liked it or not. My friend Linsey Knerl had her book, “Homeschool Hacks,” in the works before COVID started, however.

And I’m willing to bet that Zoom classrooms and homework evenings would have been sooooo much easier had parents across the country gotten their hands on “Homeschool Hacks: How to Give Your Kid a Great Education Without Losing Your Job (or Your Mind).” [As an Amazon affiliate, I may receive a small fee for items bought through my link.]
