I took this photo from the front steps at 3:36 p.m. today – six minutes before sunset.
Then I sent the picture to a few family members and friends. My stepmom wrote back to say that it was beautiful, but that “it looks like the world’s on fire.”
I responded, “Well, the world kind of IS on fire, sadly.”
Solstice – and the end of 2020 – can’t come too quickly for me.

It is beautiful Donna, but you are right about the world. Too much tragedy this year for so many and myself included. We all just need to push forward. I feel in our future that things will get much better and we can all return to a happier life and remember this year as a lesson learned the hard way.
What makes me sad, though, is that I don’t think the lessons learned will stick for the majority of people. Every time we go through a downturn or a recession, people behave just long enough to survive — and then forget everything and go back to making the same mistakes.
It isn’t COVID that made me a pessimist in this way. It’s people.
Yes, it is people. We do not seem to learn from our mistakes. I have a relative in FL that got COVID and got better. Guess what-she started socializing again. She is a nurse and will make fun of people that wear masks when they visit her. I think the only thing we can do is pray, set a good example and give where it is needed.
I plan to do all three of those things.
Thanks for reading, and for leaving a comment.
Comments remind me of what I read someone say: I’m staying up this New Year’s Eve… not to see the new year in, but to make sure the old one leaves!
I also heard this one:
“Not changing my clocks when Daylight Saving Time ends — I don’t want to give 2020 an extra hour.”
That is a good one to be sure!
Beautiful picture. Even in 2020 there is beauty if we but look. Thanks.
It has been a hard year for sure. Our year had some tragedies too. COVID has affected everything.
I am hoping your 2021 is so much better for you. I know I’m hoping and praying it’s better for us also.
Absolutely Beautiful!
I could not agree with you more….2020 has been a different kinda year for most people. Praying to end it and open 2021 with open arms for kindness, peace, love & health for all!
