Scroll up to the top of this page and look to the right. All the way to the right. See that illustration of a golden trophy? I haven’t won it yet, but with your help I could. In fact, I could win two of them.
The Plutus Awards were created by the lovely and talented Flexo, of the Consumerism Commentary blog. Plutus was the Greek god of wealth. We are geeks who write about wealth. See the connection?
I was nominated for “Best Blog Contributor or Freelance Writer” and “Best Written Blog.” Looking at that last category causes my inner grammar geek to emerge: It should be “Best-Written Blog.” But they probably don’t give prizes to grammar geeks, so let’s pretend I never said that.
Here comes the entreaty
If you feel that:
I am a better writer than Emily Guy Birken, Khaleef Crumbley, Miranda Marquit or Crystal Stemberger
and/or that
Surviving and Thriving is consistently better-written than The Simple Dollar, Consumerism Commentary, Budgets Are Sexy or Get Rich Slowly,
then I would certainly appreciate your vote.
I’d also appreciate it if you tweeted this piece, put it on Facebook or in some other way made it visible to other potential voters.
Yes, I am looking for a little validation. Writers are the most insecure people on Earth.
You have until Sept. 21 to cast your ballot(s) at http://www.plutusawards.com/vote/. Note: You don’t have to vote in every category if you don’t feel you know enough about them all. For example, I’ll cop to skipping the “best personal finance software” because I don’t use the stuff. I don’t know which is best.
So don’t panic when you’re presented with “page 1 of 15.” You might not be voting in every single category.
If you think I’m worth your vote, I thank you in advance. And if not? You can still enter the Friday giveaways. No hard feelings.
You get my vote. Whether you are writing about personal finance, your travels, or just observations about life, I find your blog to be well written and well worth reading. I hope you win!
I had no idea there were so many personal finance blogs out there!
Thanks, Nancy. And that’s just a sampling of the PF blogosphere. It’s a crowded field, to be sure.
After I read “Best Written Blog,” I paused and looked up at the wall, thinking, “Are there visual or aural blogs? I wonder where.” Then, I looked around, thinking. just thinking. I am so glad I snapped out of my thinking and just kept reading.
I voted for you!!!!
Voted, and was happy to do so. I really enjoy your blog. I also noticed the lack of hypen in the category…and realized that part of why I enjoy your blog so much is due to the high quality of writing.
I just cast my vote for you Donna. I truly enjoy your writing style and content. Please keep up the great work. Good Luck!
Best of Luck Donna! I voted for you! Hopefully we can meet in October!!!!!
I’m being lazy as I’m sure that it is posted somewhere but can you vote more than once? See if I have to ask that question then you know I voted once for you!Feel the love-bask in it.
@SonyaAnn: You can vote once only — by which I mean to say you can vote for me in each category (and I hope you will!), but you can sign on to vote only once. I didn’t mention it in my post but on the landing page it says, “The location of your computer will be logged with your vote, and multiple votes from the same location will be canceled.”
Thanks for bringing it up, in case others had the same question.
I voted for you in both categories. Good luck!
Long live the hyphen!
I voted. I was sorry not to know more of the nominees. (I should have noted some of the blogs I was unfamiliar with for future browsing.) When people send me to contests to vote for them, I don’t always end up voting for the person who sent me. I try to remain impartial. But you definitely snagged some of my votes.
And I’m grammar-geeking right along with you. Best Written Blog, Best Spoken Blog, Best Pictorial Blog… But I try not to let my inner grammar geek out too often. 🙂
Hey Donna,
I was shocked, amazed, and honored to see my name listed with yours in the “Best Blog Contributor or Freelance Writer” category! You are definitely one of the best writers on the Internet!
@Khaleef: Thanks for your kind words. See you at the Chicago conference.
You’ll get my vote Donna. Do you just get “bragging” rights OR is there a cash award? What an honor to be mentioned BUT to win would be very cool…. A suggestion for a future article…the grocery store and to be more specific … beef prices….Just came home from the store and I feel faint. Steak ….”on sale”…. $9.99 a pound. An article would be timely and much appreciated. After all …it’s all about “surviving and thriving”…….Thanks and Good Luck!
@Jestjack: The different categories carry different (small) prizes. But it’s all about the prestige, baby!
Donna
When are you going to be in Chicago again and for how long???
@Holly Samlan: I’ll be there for the Financial Blogger Conference, Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Still trying to decide how many days (if any) to stay afterward. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to hang out in Chicago — it’s that I’m also attending SaveUp 2011 from Oct. 12 to 14 in New York and I need to factor in time to get some actual work done.
You got my vote because I honestly like your work (ok and in everything TSD was nominated for, I voted against it because I honestly dislike TSD)
you rec’d my vote, and will again!
You have my vote. Love your reading your words on this blog, MSN and Get Rich Slowly. You really have made a difference in my little world.
“You really have made a difference in my little world.”
@Lenes: What a wonderful thing to hear. Thank you!
